Yeah, and it's sleeting right now too. I'm with you, this 15 F wind chill is for the birds!
Ok..I'm going to whinge about the heat...not today but on thursday onwards as it's going to be 38C...
I managed to not whither in the 44.3C day we had a few weeks ago...our evap air con was kaput @ the time..
Life could be worse, you could have your tongue stuck to a pole..:p
Could get to -14 here tonight. With a wind chill, could get to -25.
Currently it is a balmy -11.
This is hot chocolate, puzzle and well, um, er, SNUGGLIN :o weather, if you ask me.
When you sniff and your nostrils freeze together, that's too cold!
My poor dogs go out and get their business done as fast as possible. My little one came in doing the "cold foot limp" tonight.
I totally agree with you!
After watching The March of the Pengins last night, with those crazy birds walking 80 miles over ice (when they're really not made for walking) and huddling together to survive temps of -80 degrees F, I'd decided I was going to start seeing the bright side of temps only slightly below 35. But, dangit! riding in this weather is really uncomfortable! The whining continues...
If your bike needs a tuneup, this is an excellent time to leave it at the shop. Mine is there now.
Of course, everybody else had the same idea, so they are backed up.
I'm dreaming of spring days of warm sunshine and birds singing with a nice warm breeze, the spanish broom blooming and making the air smell like flowers, the morning doves coo-cooing in the mornings to the sunrise. I miss shorts and teeshirt weather!!
We got a snow day today!!!! I had to get up at 4:30 to get ready for a conference I was to attend. Jumped on my trainer to log a few miles before hitting the shower. The district cancelled school mid-way through the ride and I decided I was not traveling to the conference 50 miles north of my town. As it turns out this was a good decision for the back roads I would have taken were hazardous and 71N was closed due to a major pile up. So it is a day off and I get to watch my new kitchen metamorphsize today. The cabinets and counters are being unpacked as I type and hopefully by the end of the day they will all be place.
Good point, Southern Belle, we took DH's bike in last saturday, it needed the rear derailleur replaced as well as some realigning of parts. The bike shop said, be back in an hour! we were shocked. Saturdays are their busiest day.
School are close to the north. Schools are closed to the south. Schools are closed to the east. Schools are closed to the west. Our district didn't close :(
It is -16 with a wind chill of -21.
Some of the busses couldn't start because their gas was gelling in their tanks.
I, too, dream of swimming in the river, hanging out in a swimsuit with the kids in the backyard, and sitting on the porch swing in the morning.
If we wait, it will come.
Sundial - what a laugh! I can't imagine living generations ago and having to head outdoors at night in weather like this!
Hmmm..Me thinks a few photos of my fave beach will help you guys...I shall take some photos on sat :)
Keep warm..No sticking your tongue on anything outdoors ok..:p
I LOVE it...bring it on baby!!!!!!!!!! Too bad I am stuck inside with a bad knee at the moment.
It was 13 yesterday and no sun which made it feel even colder. This morining it started at a balmy -2 and so far has warmed up to 20. YEHAAA.
Yeah, it's been pretty cold here since last Friday. I did get out to ski Saturday when it was 0. And I snowshoed last night, when it was 7. I was going to ski tonight, but it was snowing so hard all day, I decided to do some shoveling and spend the evening indoors. We got at least 12" overnight, and snowed like mad all day today. My DH is out moving it now, and I left my car in the road (hope nobody hits it) until he gets a path cleared. No, no - I'm not that bad. We have a 20hp garden tractor with a 42" snowblower - I'm not making him shovel the 1/8 mile long driveway. The only bad thing, really, is the poor visibility when driving - sometimes you just suddenly end up in an impenetrable cloud of white, and don't know who you're pointed at.:(
I'm looking forward to Friday and Saturday, when it is supposed to be back up to a normal 23F. The lake effect snow is supposed to wind down at some point, too. We must have gotten 3 feet or more since Friday morning. More, I think.
Flybye: That is way too cold! You must not have much wind, though? We haven't been anywhere near -16 real temperature, but our wind chills have been in the -20 or more range for a lot of the time the last few days.
Crazycanuck: I really do sympathize! I wilt when it is hot. Maybe we should send you some snow pictures, instead??:D
I am a fair weather skier. I like a little sunshine. You are a brave soul to go out in cold weather! I have only had the opportunity to ski once so far this winter. I'd really like to make it to Grand Targhee in February. One lift takes you to a spectacular view of the Tetons. It is so beautiful on a clear day.
We hear about your lake effect snows all of the time on the news. I would like to experience that just once. I sometimes think it would be fun to really get snowed in - just once! I am glad to hear that you have a plow~!
Do you have any pictures?
And, no, it really hasn't been too windy here. I am sorry for the -20. You all must have thick skin. Do the kids go to school in that kind of weather?
do I detect "no sympathy" for my 40 degree rant?
...sounds of crickets chirping....
Your post encouraged me to wander on over to the CBC website & check out the weather forecast for a few places in canuckland..
Weell..be happy you're not in Winterpeg because there's a windchill warning in effect & it's supposed to dip down to -45C...I know that even if you did plug your car in would it start?
It's not too bad where my mom lives(Grand Prairie) it's only -17C..
cc: I do hope it cools down for you soon. Maybe hearing about our shivering will cool ya'll down under;)
It's 10 degrees right now in Northwest Arkansas. That's unusually cold for us. But, it's supposed to get up to 44--a nice day for January, if the sun is out.
I went out and scraped my windows before boot camp at 5:30 and it didn't seem that cold out.
Karen
You're a better woman than I am.
Is that correct grammar?
and we whine when it even approaches freezing
The cold front has done in the banana trees around here. But my weeds ARE STILL GROWING!!!
In my opinion, if it's going to be cold, it better snow like crazy or be in the 40's and not windy. It's been cold-around 17 to 25 degrees, but there is just a covering of snow just about every day. The kind that makes the roads just messy enough so I can't ride. And there is not enough snow to enjoy the winter sports I like to do such as snowshoe or x-c ski. The top of the lawn peeks thru the blanket of snow..So I have been banished to the workout closet in my house. Yes, it's that small but it serves its purpose. I would much rather be out and about, in the brisk fresh air.
 and i thought it was too hot in Perth...
I read an article this morning about Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory where it's averaged 40+C for more than 19 days in a row..
I'll stop complaining that it's 38C...
Methinks you have had experience of this CC... you mentioned it TWICE on the same page ... or maybe you WANT to try it and see of its true...
(DON'T TRY IT CC - I watchd MythBusters... it was NOT pretty!)
Our days haven't been 44', but we have had a couple of 38' days... These are the days I moan and long for winter, and then winter rolls around and I whine and moan and wish it would be warmer. I would like it to be Autumn temperatures all year - warm days and cool nights.
I'll add my whinny winter voice to the mix! :( Just when the snow and ice had retreated enough to have a visible shoulder for riding, we get more snow and temps at and below zero! And with the very cold dry air comes beautiful sunny days and here I sit at work! And now there's more snow forecasted this weekend. bikerHen
44 and sunny this weekend in Southern Indiana!
I'm taking my bike apart and packing it up for the weekend at home #1!
Today was a bitter high of about 15 (and windy). I was so stir crazy that I went to the Y, did a cycling class, one weight circuit AND ran 1 mile (I DO NOT RUN...BUT I DID!):cool:, and then did ANOTHER cycling class. Then I came home, ate broccoli and cauliflower (with a hint of cheeze sauce).
:confused:Hmmm, maybe cold and stir crazy is good for my health...
Awright, so the NWS says it's 31 degrees in Seattle right now. That's not bitter cold but it sure feels like it.
I went for a 35 mile ride tonight. I was ok on the ride into town, then I stopped, ate dinner and had a beer. When I left to ride home, my fingers were wicked cold and I was wearing warm gloves. It took a while for me to bring everything up to operating temperature.
The cold weather is one thing - the ITS TOO ICY is really gettin to me!
We had snow flurries (not much accumulation) all day yesterday so there not a whole lot more snow, but it is SOOO Icy!
I did get to play 2 hours of tennis last night and have 2 more hours on Saturday. I'll throw some spinning on the trainer in on Sunday and call that good I guess.
spoke
It is snowing sideways here AGAIN!!!! GRRRRRRRRR!!!!!! 3-6 inched anticipated and snow in almost every day of the upcoming forecast. It's February. I have been getting gardening and flower magazines in the mail - what part of SPRING doesn't the weather understand????
:o:o:o:othere, I feel better now:o:o:o:o
Hang in there Fly!
Live vicariously through us! Today, it's unexpectedly sunny. We just left the gym and it's 44. Maybe today will be a 40 miler!
