How depressing. Nice to see community spirit alive and well.
Now I feel totally justified in using the Fort Knox of bike locks whenever I leave my bike in public (which is hardly ever, if I can avoid it!).
I used to leave my bike in the basement at work, but even still had a Kryptonite D lock, A Squire "Paramount Plus" D lock (weighs a ton, but worth it), a Kryptonite twirly lock and a saddle lock.

In my opinion, you can NEVER have too many locks!
Snort... um... I'd have at least been tempted to take a picture.... but then, had I seen that happening I might have also seen the people who *were* taking a picture... and figured it was something staged and ignored it, too.
i never saw anyone looking at that video camera. wow.
that's amazing!
I LOVE New Yawk City!!!
I own a Krptonite Fahgetaboudit lock and chain... the whole rig weighs more than I do (but makes a lovely belt  ).
Nothin' that boy used would crack it...
It does, however, leave unsightly marks on my hip bones after a bumpy ride.
All of the locks he broke were chains - I wonder how long it would take him to saw through a U-lock. Maybe 2 seconds more?
When I got to college the recommended anyone with a bike buy a U-lock. When DH started riding on the cycling team one of the members lost their keys to their campus beater's lock and another member was ready with a website that had instructions on picking the lock. Being an honest guy, he only gave the website to the person without the keys and did not tell everyone in case it sparked any ideas in someone. Unfortunately, this means the instructions to pick a U-lock are circulating the web.
In a way, his doing it right out in the open with absolutely no stealth involved made him seem like he was doing something okay. I wonder if he'd acted a little more nervous, or simply tried to hide what he was doing from passers by, would they have paid more attention.
What about those cables with combination roll locks. Are the cables stronger than chains?
I cannot believe that the cops drove right by him they were more concerned with where the cameraman's car was parked! That was great. Scary, but great.
wow, and they didn't even show the pipe to pop open the U-lock method.
