Morning everyone! :)
Me and my sweet hubby rode our bikes 45 miles today at an average pace of 16mph. We're at Kiawah Island and the scenery is beautiful, but I'm sure glad we headed out at 6:00a.m. because the heat index is getting to 105 today. :eek:

Even though it's sweltering this weekend in Chicago I am interested in meeting up for some group rides in the area. I am probably a 'B' rider,
but then again I'm not as young as I used to be. Recent transplant here.
Enjoy early morning rides. Typicaly alternate between biking and running.
Initially looking for weekend rides. I emailed someone from another local website about a group ride today and received no response. Any info on links to ride calendars welcome. Thx...
I got an early start, to because the forecast high is 105, without any heat index. Bit then again, the humidity here is only 35%.
I did a little bit longer loop over to the club meeting place. I managed to hang with 20MPH+ group until the first hill, where I got dropped and then got caught by a light. I still plugged away, and caught a couple of other folks who didn't go do hills. We rode a bit slower pace until a rest area. The slow group arrived, and left my charges with them and headed to church. Did a little bit extra afterwards, and am debating doing another. I think I'm getting acclimated, when I think 88 feels cool
I did a morning 50-mile ride, my longest so far this year. Beautiful here on the Cape, although it is now up in the mid-80s and getting more humid. One part of my route follows the shore and there is an osprey nest in a platform no more that 50 feet from the road. I stopped for awhile and watched the young-uns paractice flying in the nest. They are almost full-grown, but not quite fledged. They would sit on the edge of the nest flapping their wings, and one of them would do brief levitation "hops" :) Any day now they should be flying!

Hey wavedancer- you never replied to my PM :confused: I too had a great ride this morning on cape cod. I rode from Woods Hole up to Buzzards Bay/Bourne and along the cape cod canal up to sandwich, all along the coastal rd, mostly shore drive. Made a perfect metric century! I wonder if we passed each other on the canal and didn't even know it? I never knew how to get past Bourne and enter the canal, but there was a group ride out of a local shop this morning. Only one couple showed up and me, and they were faaast, but we stayed together to the canal so they could show me the way. That was key, since it was what I needed to know to get to P-town traffic free! Coming from the texas heat, it was nice and COOOL!! I was downright cold for the first half hour. It was amazing to ride in sub-100 degree weather. PM me!! -e
Toodled out to Marymoor Park and back (42 miles). Took some pictures with my new (first) digital camera, but had major technical difficulties trying to download pics to computer. No pictures. Bummer.
Saw dogs chasing geese into the water, nifty sculptures (of which I took pics), people practicing fly-casting (where I took a little nap on a bench in the shade) and a dude riding his bike with a video camera duct-taped to his helmet.

Just a couple miles today, biking up and down our gravel road, collecting funds for my fundraiser. I wish I knew exactly how much these people were planning on contributing.
We went on a great 37 mile club ride, followed by a BBQ at a local park. One of the best things was swimming in the lake after the ride. It was hot today! Good ride, good company, good day.
While we were in the lake, we watched a car roll down the hill and into the lake! Luckily there wasn't anyone in the path of the car and it didn't get too, too deep into the water. They were able to get it out pretty quickly.

It was really muggy here, 85 to 90 F with 72%humidity. I had a really had time keeping hydrated. I drank 214 oz (6.42 L) on my ride, but I still didn't have to pee until I got home.
I did a 45 minute mountain bike ride with my husband and our advanced mountain biking friend Dave on the single track on our property, then double track horse trails (very rocky!) we can access from our property. Short ride by roadie standards, but super intense!
I was proud of myself - I rode over a log for the first time (twice), did a creek crossing, and didn't wipe out once, despite numerous close calls. It was FUNNNNN, and I am sure will be even more fun next time when I have my full-suspension Titus Racer-X! This ride was done on my 32-lb hardtail, so getting up the long climbs was slooooow....but I did it! And I actually got mud on my bike and legs - as a new mountain biker, guess I've been initiated into the dirt girl club! :D

UGGGH..Rode 54 miles today and it felt like a million. Since I joined the slacker club in the last week, I haven't ridden in over a week. OK, almost 2 weeks. It showed. I was frustrated, my BF was frustrated, and I have 2 weeks until Bike Idaho. This is gonna suck. It was hot, and I just flat out couldn't get my *** out of my own way. Hope everyone else had a better day, I'm just gonna go to bed and hope for a better day tomorrow.
32 miles on the Western Maryland Rail Trail out at Hancock, MD. Damned hot day, but gorgeous sky and scenery. I sweated like a pig and had to really push myself to do the last 10 miles, but it felt good anyway :p
After adjusting my saddle position twice today, I've realized it's time to stop fiddling on my own and go for a good, thorough Serotta fitting. The Fit Kit System that I had done after buying my bike just didn't cut it and I'm tired of half of my ride breaks being for the purpose of making adjustments. Hopefully, I can post the good results of being re-fitted after next weekend's rides.
Did 28 km of easy flats this evening except for the big climb back which always slows me down. I get to ride every day next week while my little guys is at skateboard camp so decided to save the hills for tomorrow. I love riding in the evening when it cools down a bit - went from 7:45- 9 pm and managed to get home before dark.

I did my bike marathon - it wasn't easy, but manageable; definitely noticed the elevation. I couldn't sleep half the night from a mixture of elevation, nervousness and the church steeple banging its bells every 15 minutes all night.
It started off chilly, even foggy, then crossing over the second pass it got sunny - that's the alps for you. I did pass some people on the climbs, "real" men too, that was rather satisfying :p
The second 50 km was mostly downhill or flat, so with boyfriend setting the speed we managed a 23 kph average, that's under 14 mph but still faster than ever. The competitive atmosphere does push you a little I guess.
Got home totally knackered, feeling dehydrated and headachy - the speed and elevation pretty much did me in.
We were at the very back of the pack and what was really annoying was the food at the support stations... There were only apples and oranges left at # 1, just before the two major climbs. That was just not enough. There were NO bars available, although the power bar logo advertised in the flyer at every station. At least some bananas were left at station #2, and cake and sandwiches at the end. They gave us a power bar and gel with the starter pack, but for 40 bucks signup fee that was just not right. I don't really care to pay for a cheapo jersey, two bars and a couple of apples, and still have to deal with cars passing.
Plus standing in line for an hour to get the starter pack the night before. That was ridiculous, when they could just have sent it by mail.
Anyway, I don't know if I will go to another one because I don't care for a ranking.
