My money is paid- for the Hotter Than Hell 100!

Well, I paid my money. My hotel room is sqared away. I guess there's no backing out now.

The most I have ridden in 1 day is 88 miles. I am sure I can make the 100. But, how long will it take me? I suspect around 8 hours with breaks. :eek:

I may not make the entire distance.. as they pull you off the course at a certain hour if you haven't made it to Hell's Gate. :(

Anyone else on this board doing the Hotter Than Hell this year? It will be my first year. And, if you average around 15 mph, do you want a riding buddy? The lady who is bunking with me, goes faster than I do, so I don't have a buddy to ride with.

I wanted to do it, but the I heard hotels are impossible to come by. With DH traveling like crazy, I wasn't sure we should commit. My only century took about 6.5 hours with breaks. Can't wait to hear about it!

Yes. My husband and I are doing the HHH. We are already registered. Last year was our first time to do it. Our total time was around 8 1/2 hours. We are not very fast. I was riding a cross bike. I just got a new Lemond rode bike! We are hoping to cut some time off of that.

I live in OK, and plan on doing that ride next year (I'm doing the Redman full iron this year, so can't quite fit HHH in :( ).
You'll have a great time! I've heard so many great/crazy things about that ride. I've heard it's a bit of madness at the start b/c there's 10,000 riders and you have nowhere to move...
I know a group that's going down and camping out the night before (tradition w/many people).
Sounds like a great race!!! You'll certainly be able to do it! Rumor has it there's beer near the end.... what better motivation than that?

Thanks a lot! I will think about it. I just don't do any off road biking. That's too bad. But it certainly sounds like fun.

Lenusik- I don't think the HHH is an off road race?? I'd like to do it, but that would be one LONG drive!!
I'm certainly acclimated tho- the other night it was 111 when I stepped out for my ride! I swore my tires were going to explode! They smelled like burning rubber when I pulled back into the house after an hour on the boiling pavement. :eek:

It's all road biking... as far as I know.

Yeah, this temperature is killing. it is goign to be 117 today. I rode last morning at 5:30 and it was already 95! I am planning to ride tomorrow morning for a while and hope to survive.

On the HHH site is says that there is a 10 mile Off road challenge.

The trail will be open all day but will be swept for survivors at 6 PM on Friday and 1 PM on Saturday. The trail is single track with quick short climbs and drops. The route is fun but riders are reminded that these nature trails are on natural surfaces surrounded by trees, water, wild animals, pointy objects and poison ivy. Off-roading requires skill and caution on the part of the rider."

AH... well... I guess I missed that...cause I would never do it. :D

That's cool though, for the people who like to mountain bike!

Well, they also have a road bike section too... that has varying distances, up to 100 miles.

But, since you live in AZ and it's in TX... I can see why you wouldn't be doing it. I know I wouldn't travel that far for a bike rally.

You know, last year my husband and I went on a biking honeymoon to CA wine country organized by Trek Travel. I love bike trips when I don't have to drag or ship my bike and everything is organized. We put a lot of miles in three days, tiring but a lot of fun. I would travel for something like this again.
