With a seven-day tour coming up in August in the hot Midwest and also trying to travel as lightly as possible on my bike, I'd like to know of any padded shorts or preferably knickers that will dry by morning if I wash them out the night before. I have yet to have a dry pair by morning, especially the padded area. Any help will certainly be welcome.
Would tri shorts do what you need?
Never had heard of tri shorts before, so I "googled" them, and they just may be what I'm looking for. Thanks very much for the tip!
When I tour I take 2 pairs of shorts with me, alternating each in a wear-a-pair, wash-a-pair. I wash my shorts at the end of every day. Some mornings the newly washed shorts are dry, some days they aren't. I then take the damp pair and attach them to either my panniers or trailer (depending on what I"m using) and let them dry as I ride the next day. And you're absolutely right that it's the chamois that isn't quite dry.

OT... but it's come to mind 2 or 3 times in the past 24 hours....
Have you tried growing bean-sprouts on your tours. You hang them in a nylon/mesh bag from the seat frame (runner thingies underneath) and rinse them out a few times a day.
I did it 25 years ago on my trip down 101. You have to watch out for eg racoons of course. They are very health conscious in California
