Shimano 2005 Sandals (SD60)

I bought a pair of Shimano sandals last week, because one can never have too many shoes, and they look so cool and comfortable on other people's feet. I decided to get the discontinued two-strap style, figuring they will be gone soon enough, while the current three-strap style will be around for a while. You can still find them, mostly at the MSRP, not on clearance, though some places have them marked way down, but in weird sizes. MSRP is $80.

I wore them at work Thursday and Friday to break them in. (The cleats are recessed enough to not touch the ground.) On Saturday, I wore them on a 45 mile ride, and 75 miles on Sunday, both with and without socks, and for walking around afterwards. On the bike, it was like I couldn't even feel them, they are such a non-intrusive fit. Like my feet were only resting on cushy rubber platforms. My toes enjoyed the wiggling room. The soles are plenty stiff- I felt no loss of power.

Walking around they are fine, but for driving, I think I prefer my Birks with nothing around my heel that I can slip off and on.

Can't wait to test them in the rain! Can't wait to test them with warm wool socks!! I plan on wearing them on my 100 mile mountain ride next Saturday- that's how much I love them.

Dang, Nanci, you scored! I've looked all over the 'net, and cannot find a 41/42 pair. I printed out the list of Shimano dealers in Chicago and thought I'd make some calls today, but never got a chance. I may just call LBS and ask if they can find any for me. Or cave and get the '06 ones.

I am *psyched*. I think I scored with the Touring Cyclist link. We shall see when they arrive. I like a two strap better than three in most sandals. That spot where the middle strap usually hits is where the pressure makes my toes go numb. I think. More will be revealed...I hope the arrival of the sandals will bring with it weather warm enough for sandals! Eventually.....they should be great in the hot, hot Chicago summer.

Once you start wearing the sandals, you won't want to go back to shoes! :cool: The sandals are so great. I'm on my second pair, having worn out my first pair a couple years ago. My shoes, especially my road shoes, sit unused most of the time. They sure aren't going to wear out quickly! :) If it's a little chilly, I wear wool socks under the sandals. I've even gone so far as to put little plastic bags inside the wool socks for wind blocks and you can keep your feet pretty warm that way. (When its actually cold, say below 50 F, then I switch to shoes and toe/foot covers. I am not totally crazy! ;) )

Besides the comfort, the coolness, etc., what I like about the sandals is that you can go just about anywhere with them, get off the bike, and walk around. I try and run lots of errands on the bike, plus commute as much as possible. So I am in and out of various places. The sandals are SO easy to walk in. Wear a skort and a cute jersey, or other comfy top, and you don't look or feel like everyone is staring at you in your clicking bike shoes and tight lycra outfit. Now maybe that doesn't bother some of you, but I prefer to blend in a bit more. :o

I absolutely HATE the look of the new shimano three-strap sandals. :mad: Why get a sandal that looks like a shoe? So when my present ones wear out, I'll be looking around for a new brand. But that's another whole topic.

Annie, I'm glad to hear you feel that way about them. Since you and I seem to live in about the same weather, I am encouraged. Like you, I don't enjoy clomping around in bike shoes. I love riding clipped in, though. I have yet to find the perfect skort, but this will happen. I did find some mtb shorts that look normal, yet have a chamois, and don't seem to bunch up too much when I ride. Add the sandals, and I'll definitely blend it. :)

These shoes are the sole reason I can still wait another two weeks to get my first salary from my summerjob! I've been drooling over these for ages, or at least so it seems.
Is this the old or the new model then, 'cos this is the only thing available here I think?

I already have what I call the cyclist "smudge"...I can't imagine what "smudges" sandals would bring!

Cyclist smudge: that tanned spot on my hands from cycling gloves. When seen out of the corner of my eye, I wonder what a smudged my hand against and I try to rub it off.

I must remember sunscreen!

I wonder if those sandals would fit Bebop cleats.....

I should probably sell my road shoes. They are nice Sidi's, worn like twice. I just don't like the slick soles- never will. They got ignored when I got the MTB Sidi's, now with the sandals, they'll just never get worn.

I'm thinking, this Saturday, I'm going to start out with sandals with wool socks, since it's going to be in the 50's and 50% chance of rain, and fast descents, but carry a dry pair of socks to change into.

Darn it all! I'm a total sandal freak. I have more sandals than shoes. But I just read the "incompatible" shoe list for my Frogs, and sandals are verbotten!

(the reason given is that the toe box hits the crank arm and you can't unclip)

Now, I gotta wonder if smaller sized sandals, like those which would fit a woman's, feet are ok?

Anyone using sandals and frogs, let me know!

What about the Lakes on TE's website? They have 2 straps and 2 different models. I've been looking at them. Anybody have any feedback??
