Animals in the Road
Husband and I rode ~20 today, testing the legs on some local hills after a 40 yesterday. On the way downhill around 25-28mph I see a large black animal in the road. My first thought was cow, but as we approach it was a large dog - then we saw another on the opposite side of the road, just hanging out. They weren't running & didn't charge, but at the speed we were going I could imagine the wreckage if it decided to jolt in front of me. I sat up, got on the breaks a bit, and yelled "STAY!" as we approached. It did *phew* and we made it past okay. My sweet hubby was proud of me for not panicing... almost as proud as he was for me making it up the hill w/out gasping :D

Whew! And I was startled by a little Yorkie today! I turned a corner on a busy city street, and the tiny beast went berserk, barking and flinging itself at me. Fortunately leashed, but I nearly veered out into traffic.
At least the big ones usually seem to need to think about it for awhile before they get going. How interesting to have two big black dogs on either side of the road. I picture them like guardians. Glad they didn't bother you.

Must've been BIG to be confused for cows!! :)

I seem to regularly pass by some sort of terrier type dog in the park every Saturday morning. This past Sat I saw 4 or 5 dogs on a 14 mile ride. None of them bothered me, thankfully. I think it's the power of the "good dog" socks my SS sent to me. :D
Good job on passing up the big dogs without a panic. Having good speed on your side doesn't hurt!

I nearly had a head-on (literally) with a flying Mallard trying to land in the ditch next to the trail yesterday. It is amazing how tame the duck couple is with all the cyclists, runners, dog walkers and all. There are some chickens that are loose further north.
