Guyon canal syndrome - anybody heard of this?

I am trying to self diagnose - granted not the smartest thing. I was riding today - my second long ride since getting my road bike, and my pinky, ring finger and palm kept going numb. If I switch to my aero bars the tingling and pain reside. I had ulner nerve sergery on my elbow about 17 years ago, but still occasionally get numbness. I do not have a problem riding my hybrid bike. I know that it is my ulnar nerve based on the fingers affected, so based on a google search Guyon Canyon Syndrome seems like a possible diagnoses.

Did you get a professional fitting session done when you bought your road bike? If not, I highly recommend it.

Brina... I have issues with my left hand and foot getting numb when I ride. If I'm careful to keep my shoulders relaxed and not lock my elbow, my hand doesn't get numb at all.

I don't know what guyon canal syndrome is, but it might be a good idea to talk to a physical therapist or a doctor. I'm fortunate to have a friend who is a PT and she helps me a lot. I hope you get it all sorted out soon!!

You might wanna have a PT or OT or doc check your hand. Could be the tunnel of Guyon and squishing of the ulnar nerve there, or it could be the ulnar nerve is getting squished at the elbow. The other wacky thing is that it could be referred from the shoulder or neck! I'm sure in your internet search you've found discussion of "Tinel's sign" at the elbow, and tenderness at the tunnel of Guyon, but bear in mind that these spots sing out to pressure even without pathology, so don't use them for your diagnosis.

Specialized makes a glove (about $18) that has a pad over the tunnel of Guyon. I'm planning to buy a pair as soon as I get my paycheck. They're nice.

Thanks for the info. i will look into those gloves.

I know that the pressure can't be originating in my elbow, I had ulnar nerve transposition surgery over 15 years ago. I do have a pinched nerve in my neck, but I would expect that to flare during any cycling. This is only occurring on my road bike, specifically while I am riding on my hoods.

I am searching out a good hand specialist here in the Chicago area. My previous treatments for this problem was in NYC.
