Giant OCR comp2

Hi' all,

Looking to possibly buy one of these this week? I test rode the wsd in a small and seemed to fit me right. I'm 5'4" with inseam 30.5. Apparently here in wisconsin these are very hard to come buy and slow to order in. I called a dealer out of town and they have this 05' OCR comp 2 and told me the mens and womens frame in the Giant are exact and they would just swap out the handle bars and seat. This will be my first bike and not alot of experience to know how it should feel. I also am kind of on the fence I could ride an XS but only quickly jumped on one in another city and none around to try again. I just know I like the upright feel like the giants and pilots but feel I'm going to try to afford the composite frame and liked the giants valdue. They are closing this out about $1700 but I'm hoping to get it even cheaper as I will buy gear from them. Any suggestions or thoughts? What prices have you pd or seen? Also what else do I need like good pedals and shoes? Short suggestions too? I just hope it is not sold as like I said I've been searching dealers for these?

Hi there... I don't know much about the Giant line... I tried them but they didn't fit me so I kept going...

Have you test ridden several brands? Lots of great bikes out there... the key is getting a frame that fits well... if it's the Giant for you, then cool! You may want to check out Road Bike Review to see what others think of this bike and also the price of it... pretty comprehensive reviews...

as to gear... shorts definitely. You can add shoes and pedals as you can afford it, but I personally think you can't afford NOT to buy shorts. They prevent chafing and help prevent saddle sores... since they are made with no big seams that rub in all the wrong places! Be sure to never, ever wear shorts more than once without washing and after a ride, change as soon as ya can to prevent yeast infection since they will most likely be damp after a hard workout.

I'm 5'4" with a 30" inseam. I'm on an XS but it is a TCR so slightly different geometry. I was too stretched out on the small. I LOVE my giant; it is a comp 1. Just make sure you're comfortable. Not squished, not overly stretched etc. Test ride both the S and XS

I bought an OCR1 last year - the geomettry of the Giant just matched me best out of all the bikes I tried. I ended up with an XS size (I am 5'2, 28" inseam) and the bike store still had to find me a shorter stem so I wasn't stretched out! (I have found this is an issue for a many women)

If it's hard to try bikes, you may want to consider getting all your limbs etc measured (I think this is fit-kitting, but I'm not sure if that's the process or brand) and then plugged into a system that will spit our what bike-dimensions suit you best. I bought my first bike this way (without test-riding) and never had any problems at all as the bike was set up just for me.

I know you want a bike *now* but it's worth the time and effort to shop around and find one that's just right for you. You are (hopefully) going to spend a lot of time on the bike, so you want one that fits!

Thanks for the help. I'm going tomorrow to ride the OCR comp2 and hope to have them switch out the handlebars, stem, and seat to make it like the ladies giant. I also will hit another trek as I like the pilots too but hoping for carbon. I also jumped on a 52 specialized roboix that felt a little stretched but the LBS said again I could swap out stem and handle bars etc to get a better fit. He said it would be a $30 charge to rewrap handle bars. The giant LBS owner is a female which seemed to know her stuff and mentioned really measuring me when I get there. I wish I wouldn't have to travel 2 hrs and they could just ship it to my Giant dealer for the sake of local tune ups and adjustments but not sure how to ask this? I'm anxious as all other orders on the Giants won't come in until June 1.

I'm a bit concerned about the 52cm. Seems big for someone who is 5'4", but we are all different. I'm 5'6" and ride a custom bike that is the equivalent to a 49cm. But then again, I have very long legs and a short torso.

Just make sure that they aren't trying to sell you the 52cm because it's the one they have on the floor. Switching out stems and all can only go so far. Make sure that the frame is right.

I also agree that you should ride as many different bikes as you can, even in different shops. I know you are excited and it's getting warm and you want to get out there, but if you get a bike that does not fit, you will not have fun on it.
