I don't mean every 4-6 hours. I take ibuprofin sometimes once a day for several days for muscle pain. Like at night. Is that ok? Does anyone have a clue when it comes to this?

I think that depends on how much. I was on a similar Rx strength NSAID 3x a day for a month for plantar fascia issues.
During the AIDs ride, I took 800 mg 4X a day. I do the same when I've messed up my back. Just be sure you eat something before you take it.
Snap, out of curiosity how many days did your doc say you can follow that regimen? That's a very high dosage for chronic use but for acute purposes - how many days? Just curious.
I have read reports that long-term use of ibuprofin has been tied to kidney and liver damage, as well as gastrointestinal bleeding. I can't remember how long term it would need to be before you would need to start worrying about it. I think it would be safe to use it occasionally, but could you try Tylenol sometimes? Of course, IB is what usually works best for me too. I do worry about taking on a daily basis though.
Oh, is that why I have no stomach lining?:D I kid! I kid! I don't do it for longer than a week (AID's ride was 7 days) Since I started Pilates, I don't have the back problems I used to, so the mega doses are few and far between.Quote:

Good times.
It's my understanding that a prescription dose of ibuprofen is 800 mg 3X a day. Have you checked with your doc about the 800 mg 4X a day?Quote:

I haven't asked my Dr. It seems silly to make an appointment with him to just ask how much asprin I can take safely. And now a days that seems to be what you have to do to get any answers. That is why I posted this ? to see if anyone had an answer before I go the route of haveing to make an appointment.
But it does seem like a high dose there snap. Does your stomach bug you at all from taking that much?
You don't need an appt for this. Just call and ask. A triage nurse or a pharmacist could tell you this.
You know what a dummy i am. My Pharmacist is awsome! I will go and ask him today. Thanks for triggering that. My Dr is not easy to get a hold of. And my Pharmacist tends to know more then my Dr when it comes to drugs that's for sure. Tanks again.Quote:
