Yeah..outside at last! and ouch...

Yesterday I rode a quick 8 miles outside. It was sooo nice to feel road instead of trainer! Today I met up with my buddy to do our first training ride. We are both doing our first week long tour in June, so we need to log some miles! It was soo nice out. Nicer than yesterday. I caught a twig in my tire and was just saying, "I'm stopping to clear my tire" and in slow motion, I felt myself keeling over, still clipped in!!!! It was my first time falling clipped in! I landed in the gravel and have a nice rash. The bike is fine and my shorts weren't snagged so all is well.

Here is the real ouch....my tail bone is killing me! I fell on it about 3 years ago and sometimes it still hurts. I have tried a bunch of seats, no luck. It hurts equally on my MTN and my road bike (different seats). Can there still be something done with my bike fit in order to ease the pain? I sure hate to think of what it will be like on my tour!

I 'm so jealous :mad: The weather forecast for Croatia is snow for the next few days, and today is so cold and VERY windy that I don't even wanna go to university. I just wanna stay in and read a book and drink hot tea. I can't wait for better days. In Croatia is usually very worm when the spring comes, but it's still winter and my bike is crying in the garage all dusty and unused.

Help with my english... By "clipped in" does it also involved SPD shoes? If so than I really have a lot to say about falling. My first contact with spd was few days before going out on a 700 miles ride (very smart, isn't it :rolleyes: ) I couldn't get used to it for the first couple of days so I was falling every once in a while. I went with my boyfriend and his friend and I had to drive in front of them cause once when they turned to see where I am and I was lieing (forgot how is it spelled!) in a bush and they laughed so much. By the end of the our journey I was all covered with bruises. But at least now I have something to talk to my grand-children :D

Did any of you girls had similar experiences, please share it... so I wouldn't fell like clumsy :D

Well, my embarrassing moment was when at the start of my first organised ride, I fell as I was clipped in in front of these hordes of riders. The guy next to me, almost fell too, but my DH who was on the other side of him, managed to keep him up:D . Then my DH APOLOGISED to the guy! He realised later he was apologising for me:rolleyes: :rolleyes:

Anyway being a relative newbie, I always seem to have a bruise or some gravel rash, or some small open wounds (esp on the knees) on the go at one time or another. Everyone at work checks me out each weekend to see what's new:p

BTW, the weather in sunny Sydney (Australia) today was a nice balmy 35 degrees C which is almost too hot to cycle. It doesn't snow here, so you can pretty much cycle all year around, except it gets very dark in the winter mornings, and winter is coming soon. Can't complain really:) :)

Bad Fall -
Cycling at night, was a little tired, wanted to get home as soon as possible. Stopped at traffic light, it was about to turn green .. forgot I was clipped, hit the curb, 2 big gashes on my shin. :mad:

Comical Fall -
Again cycling at night, heard this funny noise coming from my crank, wanted to stop to check it out. Unclipped from my left ... stopped ... but somehow tilted to my right that was still clipped and fell. :p

Lesson learnt : Try not to use clip-ons at night :D

iFKA- in case you haven't guessed by now, "clipped in" means you are using shoes and pedals that clip together SPD is one type, but there are others.

Don't feel too jealous, today we have tornado warnings and high winds this afternoon. The rest of the week it may snow. Ho hum, I guess I am back to riding on a trainer indoors.

Why is it that SPD are "clipless" but you're still "clipped in"?:confused:

The cages that some people use on thier pedals are called "toe clips" so the next advancement was the "clipless". I know, it makes no sense, but neither does wrapping my fat behind in spandex, just go with it!!

Yeah, clipless refers to the fact that there are no toe-cages or "clips" on your pedals. So you're "clipped in" because your cleat is attached to the pedal. They're kind of two different terms, in a way.

Barb, does your tailbone contact your saddle? If so, you can find a saddle that it cut out or recessed in that area, like mine. Don't know if that's the issue, but it might help. Good luck!

My thing is the roll of fat just above my shorts, because the spandex is holding the rest in!
