It pains me greatly to see the carnage, the violence. Why why why???
May people of Nice and to the victims to the senseless violence, my heart goes out to you. I wish we could end all this killing. I think all killings are senseless and serves no purpose at all so there is no point to say "senseless killing".
I wish there was a way to stop all this.
May your broken heart mend and may you find peace. Peace to those who have lost their lives.

The father of the guy who drive the truck, killed the people and then the police killed him, had depression/psychiatric problems. Father tried to get him to see one. The guy was also divorced and did not have custody of his child(ren).
It doesn't make the crime less...

It's also tough to talk about it unless one is among friends and family who have read lots of different perspectives, thought about some of this at different times in life ...police, racism (I'm thinking what happened in Minneapolis, Baton Rouge, Dallas), faith intermingled deep depression, etc.
There is just so much hate and anger and pain and despair and heartbreak and growing hopelessness and....if we could just find some way to stop pitting collective groups against others and recognize that we are all in this life with each other. Much easier said than done, sadly. Certain politicians aren't helping.
There have been times in my life, back in my younger days, when I allowed myself to be poisoned with hate for all the injustice I was witnessing. While it was good to be motivated to actively work to stop such things, I finally realized that hate is as much a disease and every bit as unhealthy for me as any disease found in a medical book.
I still work on behalf of social justice issues, but I long ago vowed never to give in to hate, again. I doubt I'll be remembered for much when I die, but if someone can say of me that she made the world a better place for the love and warmth she added, I will consider my life a success. The only cure for hate is love. That much I do know.
I've stopped watching the news.
Has anyone heard from Rebecca? She was in France for the TdF, also visiting family I think.
Hope she checks in soon. My partner's son and wife were at Paris airport 2 months ago.....it took them awhile to get through airport. Alot of checks. The army /police presence were quite noticeable and they were armed.Quote:

I awoke to a text from one of my clients on the 15th. She is a French teacher, studying and visiting in France for 2 weeks, in Nice.
She said she was not at the scene, but was eating on the balcony of a friend's home watching the fireworks from a distance. I felt relieved for her, but upset. Haven't heard from her since, and I hope being at the scene of a terrible thing isn't overly triggering for someone, who has already had enough trauma this year. Not sure how I can even process this with her, next week.
It is difficult work for social justice issues since it is an area where I've volunteered for a decade before shifting to cycling. Interracial relationships and love has had deep impact on our family...forever. And if not resolved, it can be at a high price to a person's mental health. I witnessed for my sister when my parents disowned her for a decade when she married some who was white.Quote:

For all the challenges of living in a multi-racial, multicultural and multi-faith society here in Canada....I wouldn't want it any other way for myself. It is the best route long-term for a country in terms of full breadth of perspectives, creativity and resilience. I do continue believe that it makes a society flexible long term.
I don't know why human is more well-educated than we were but how come some of us have became so violent these days. Is human-being going mad?
I think people shouldn't follow suit any high tech, then should come back to nature, learn zen to cool down our anger, heal the sorrow.
Under work stress, i've almost gone mad, behave violently. I had to quit my job and lean Zen. It really helped.
I think all prisoners and even normal people should be taught how to calm down, how to control their thought, their violence.

I think a feeling of being powerless creates anger. Maybe people feel there are too many other people sticking their noses in on what you can think, say and do when most of what you want to say relates to other people who are seen as getting a free ride. A daily diet of you are racist, heartless, homophobic, ageist, mean, greedy topped with you are either too fat, too skinny and a wacko for letting your kids eat certain things whilst you're also negligent for letting them eat other things.
Or maybe Moral authority used to be derived by a persons acts, think of the student standing in front of that Chinese Tank or Thatcher sending the Fleet to the Falklands. Today the ultimate moral authority is to be a victim and the bigger the victim you are, the higher your moral authority.
Indignation and anger is the currency of victimhood. No wonder these feelings are on the rise. This country badly needs its heroes back, real heroes, not heroes just because they are an offended minority.
Morality which depends upon the helplessness of a man or woman has not much to recommend it. Morality is rooted in the purity of our hearts.
