Iceland
Several of you have mentioned wanting to go to Iceland lately. Chris and I went a couple of years ago, and plan to go back sometime in the next few years. It is one of the MOST interesting places I have ever been! It's one of the only places in the world where the mid-Atlantic ridge emerges from the depths of the ocean onto land. You can stand with one foot on the North American tectonic plate and the other on the Eurasian plate. You can feel the heat coming up from the magma underneath the surface. It's incredibly dramatic and geologically entrancing. The links below are public links to the photos of our Iceland trip--that is, they're on Facebook but since the links are public, you can just click them to see it all without having to belong to Facebook. Happy to answer any questions if I can, for those who are interested!

Thank you for the beautiful photos.
[geek talk] Interesting to see a photo of Coprinus Comatus (most likely) aka shaggy mane on Aug 27-27 post. Good eats before they self destruct into black goo in few hours from the time the photo was taken. [/geek talk].
Really lovely place with all the beautiful vistas. No wonder Vikings call the place Iceland to keep others away.

We speak geek in our house often. :) And I didn't know you could eat shaggy manes till you said so! Nice summary here of the adventure of trying to eat them in a timely way: http://www.madaboutmushrooms.com/mad...ggy-manes-101/
