More hot flashes--is this nearly forever?

Ok I'm in menopause...or I haven't had a period for over 2 yrs.

So I think I'm clear :) probably for rest of my life.

But in the past 6 months, my hot flashes have increased in frequency. Thankfully usually in the evening when I'm in bed. Sometimes I think it's psychological too --stuff that bothers me, triggers a hot flash. I didn't used to be like this. Stressful stuff just didn't previously cause me to have a hot flash.

I'm 54.

And all of this is coinciding with me becoming slowly more acclimatized to where I live ...I seem to tolerate cooler temperatures a lot longer and wear abit less clothing than 3 yrs. ago when I moved. But when I'm over-layered I get hot flash symptoms and absolutely need to get out of overheated situations.

Shooting Star, I haven't had a period since 2002; I had hot flashes regularly for 5-8 years, mostly when I woke up in the AM and a few times a day. During this time, I also became more intolerant to heat and better with the cold. I still get an occasional one, when I get up in the morning. It's usually when I don't feel well or something else is out of kilter in my body. It's normal to last 10 years.

Surgical menopause in 1998, I still have hot flashes, although much less frequently these days.

Surgical menopause in 2008 - although I was already perimenopausal at that time. While my hot flashes appear to be milder than what I've heard described, they have decreased quite a lot. I do find that I tolerate heat much better than I once did and and MUCH more sensitive to the cold than I once was. Unsure if this is related at all, I also dropped from 210 to 124 pounds so who can say for sure what's changed my temperature tolerances.

Most likely part of it is due to your significant weight loss (congrats!). I will affirm that my handshake is often cooler than the other person. And I'm talking about summer time. :) And I naturally don't get sweaty palms --no matter how stressed or nervous I am.

Oy, another decade of hot flashes. Great. Another reason why I need to bicycle and stay healthy. :o
