2012 Specialized Ruby Elite Sz 44 What do I replace it with

Seeing as my bike is now probably gone forever, the insurance company will replace it. I have spent the last couple of hours looking for something similar and all I am is confused. So the basic question is, what bike would replace the 2012 Specialized Ruby Elite Size 44. It's pretty important to get the size 44 as it fit me so well.

I saw some Treks. that come in a 45-47. Would these be the same size as the Ruby 44? If the local Trek dealers order a special size bike for me and it doesn't fit, I still have to buy the bike.

I am so down in the dumps about this whole mess that any information would sure make me a feel a little better. thanks in advance for all your help!!!

Maybe the Ruby 44 2014 will come out soon as yest another choice since you don't like the colors of 2013?

Look at the geo specs of your beloved bike and see what bikes have similar geo. Did you get any help from a bike shop?

I would phone around your LBS and see if any carry any WSD bikes in your size. You might even find your model somewhere. Have you searched online? Check the geometry and then you can look at other bikes geometry and see what is similar. The geometry would be similar. Trek's 47 is similar as far as size wise. Felt's 48 is also similar size wise. I had looked at the Specialized Amera (I would ride the 44). I ended up going with the Felt 48. We had to special order the Felt since basically no one in smaller cities stocks the smallest size. Because we had to special order it there were still acouple speical editions left and we were able to get that one which I love. Good luck.

It's a 2013 and at a really, great price. $2184. The size seemed to be okay . . . 47cm. It feels different than the Ruby, but I'd been riding the Ruby for a year and half so that's probably normal. I love the color red, too. The 2014 Ruby's, according to the LBS, are going to be black.

It seems to be everything I was looking for. I would rather have endurance than speed. The saddle will need to be replaced; it's horrible. Can you believe I loved the stock saddle that came with the Ruby? They don't make that one anymore either.

I have to decide by Monday morning. :confused: Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I am buying two locks and the new bikes will be locked up every time they are in the garage. I will never get lazy about it again.

i am so sorry that you are having to go through all of this. It is hard emotionally to regain trust in anything especially since the robbers invaded your territory and stole your good friends.

I can off no advice about the replacement bikes except to say thank goodness for insurance companies who actually perform as promised.

We are paranoid about keeping our garage shut and locked for that very reason as we had a a lawn mower stolen in a brief stretch of time between taking the groceries into the house and bringing the empty carry bags back out to the car.

Lesson learned, there's not room for all three in thehouse, but I can guarantee you the madone gets house room. Might be something to consider.

So was the garage door open then? Is that how they were stolen? I know theft via the open garage is quite common opportunistic theft, but breaking into a garage and stealing a bike with the lock on it? Seems less opportunistic. How do thieves open garage doors? Can you overcome the electric closing thing with a crow bar or something? Can you add extra security to the garage door, sliding locks on the inside, etc?

I LOVE the colors on that Trek as well. Very nice. Is your homeowners insurance covering the loss I hope??

Does it really matter how it happened. The bikes were stolen. I miss my Ruby. Don is happier with the new bike. Still, with 2,500 deductible only one bike was covered. We are implementing measures so that it never happens again. I can bring my bike in the house as it is quite light. His weighs quite a bit, but we will figure out something. I just wish I wasn't so depressed. We were burglarized around 17 years ago. We didn't have deadbolts on the doors. It was some kids and they didn't take a whole lot, but for almost a year I couldn't go into the house without an escort and then locked every window and door I could. I still get depressed about that too, sometimes. Now I go into the garage and just get nauseated.

The police recovered our bicycles. We can't get them for a few days because they using them for evidence. We will be gone anyway. LOL . . . I now have a carbon speed bike and a carbon distance bike. I have to find out what the insurance company will do.

If you're buying extra security for your bikes, may I suggest Kryptonite's super heavy duty Fahgettaboudit chain? That thing is pretty much indestructible and you could lock both bikes with it. It's pretty stationary due to its weight (5kgs for a shorter version) but it's perfect for what you need it for. It's not cheap, but your bikes aren't, either!

At work we just saw a demonstration on how fast bike locks can be compromised. What really surprised me is how fast one of those expensive U-locks can fail when a hydraulic car jack is used to pry it open! I now bring my bike into my office.

That's why you should buy shorter ones. The stronger car jack won't help if there isn't enough room for the thieves to squeeze it in between the bars. Plus they're damn near impossible to use without damaging the frame as well.
