white ford f 150's

around here in Texas ( houston and western suburbs and "farm country" the Ford F 150s' are driven by drivers who are either wearing a baseball cap
sidewise or big old texas cowboy hats ( clean, unblemished and studded with tourquoise and silver) and expensive, non functional cowboy boots. Driving a white ford especially seems to lower their IQ by at least 150 ( that is assuming that they have one). Invariably, about 80-90% of the compalints from other bikers about car interactions are about white ford 150s as their drivers seem to delight in swinging as close as they can without actually hitting you and then roaring away in a fart of black smoke and screeching tires.

The only time I have been bumped at a top sign it was a ford 150.

Having ridden out in the Hill Country, I know it is worse out there. I actually had one pull up in front of me on a road in the middle of nowhere ad tell me to get on a sidewalk. Talk about people unclear on a concept!

I just make sure I have a bail out place available whenever possible.

OK, when DH and DS started riding at least 13 years ago, they did get harassed by guys driving pick ups. DH had a Coke bottle thrown at him on Rt 117 in Stow, for no reason, except that he was on a bike. But that behavior hasn't been seen around here in ages.

One of the many reasons why I only road ride in groups. Some people can be real asshats.

The white trucks are the worst! It is so bizarre. We don't have too many cowboy hats up in this corner, but if I see a white pickup I give it a WIDE BERTH.

We drove white 150s and 350s when DH lived and worked in Wyoming. Those F350s three on the floor were a gas to drive. I never did try to run any bikers off the road though.... company issued, had to drive safe.

Ahhh I can relate!! While it may not be the white Ford 150; it's the people that tow their snowmobile, 4wheeler, boat, a couple of times a year... once to get here and once to take it home. They're driving so fast that the trailer is bouncing around behind their vehicle and they don't even realize it! So imagine what happens if they pass you, it's absolutely terrifying!! And of course, we are one of the states that has a 3 foot law but no one knows about!! I've argued with the Bike Coalition for years about this, but they seem to forget the remainder of the state that is above Auburn/Lewiston. Now my question is this: if the locals don't know about the law, then how do we expect the tourists to know? Ummmm

I have to ride my bike a quarter of a mile to get to the bike path here in Florida. That quarter of a mile is the most frightening riding I have ever done. It is almost impossible to walk, you would have to walk in a steep ditch with lots of thorns. So, I take the risk and ride. I barely fit in the lane with a car but people will not wait, even if there is oncoming traffic.
