Bee sting by eye while cycling

While cycling out in the country this morning, a bee flew in between my glasses and face.

And stung my eyelid. I was going up a small 6% hill on a 2 lane arterial road and frantically brushed the bee out of my skin and lift my sunglasses simultaneously since the bee was literally stuck in my skin! :eek:

I've never been so scared of....a bee.

And it hurt for the first 40 min. or so. Good thing, there weren't many cars around me ..

That bee sting plus a lovely brunch of Eggs Benedict over crab cakes 2 hrs. later..for a 95 km. ride, capped today.

holy moly!!! OUCH!!! So sorry that happened. What are the odds, right? Yikes! :eek:
Crab cakes make everything better (that and some wine). Glad you're OK.
That's one of my biggest fears (mostly because I'm allergic to bees and I'd have to stop and get my epipen out FAST).

did you have cycling specific glasses on? i'm trying to figure out how bee got into glasses but hey if you're going fast enuf i can believe anything.

If this happened to me... might have to go to a dr. Each time I've been stung by a bee, I've ended with significant swelling. I could see my eye swelling shut.

I've had "bee-in-the-jersey" events, twice. Not stung, as I managed to prevent the bee from moving in my jersey, but had to pull to the side of the road and extract the critter.

That was my first thought: Would my eye swell up from this sting? Meanwhile we were out in the country...over 40 km. away from a hospital.

Yes, those of you who are allergic to bee stings, I salute your caution.

Yes, I was wearing cycling glasses. But then again, each person' face shape determines how tightly the glasses can be worn against the face.

Owie, owie! I thought a sting on my cheek was bad, don't even want to think about one on the eye. I'd be another grabbing for my epi-pen.

14 hrs. later and after sleeping, my eye is slightly swollen around the eyelid.

Ouch! I hope it doesn't end up swelling too badly or otherwise getting infected. I mention infection because, even if stings don't induce an allergic reaction, they can cause an infection. If your eyelid starts to feel warm to the touch, itchy or inflamed, I would check with your doctor. I ended up having to take an oral antibiotic for one of my bee stings.

Owwww, I can't even imagine it. That must have been so frightening. I wish you well and a speedy recovery for your eye.

owie, bee stings hurt! Last time I got stung I literally felt sick to my stomach from the pain, I was quite shocked at how much it hurt.

My advice is that it's always good to become a strong cyclist by yourself anywhere on the road --bike handling skills, traffic and doing hills. Dearie was about half a km. cycling away when I got stung. Thank goodness there were little traffic, so that he could hear me yell out in panic. We were also cycling in an area that was completely new to me..and he had the map. I didn't. When it happened, it was at approx. 30 km. into our 95 km. bike trip. But I was ok that whole day. Very little swelling.

Cycling up a hill, half-blinded by a bee struggling and stuck between glasses and face is a terrifying experience.

Today 2 days later, my eye is half size of my good eye and swollen. I hope to see my doctor (or any doctor in their practice). Cycling to work now (thankfully not far), means tipping my head up more, in order for me to see properly ahead with a swollen eye.
