My son inherited his father's Berthoud front bag. Whatever part was on the bike unfortunately was stolen along with the bike. It mounted on the handlebars. Can anyone tell me how?
We have the bag and a long pin. Thanks.

Is it a straight pin or does it have three sides - two that look like arms, and one that is longer and has kind of a square section sticking up?
Veronica
it has a straight pin. one end has a 1" bent part.
so like a long L
Sounds like it's different from the Berthoud bag I have then. This is the pin I have.

I'm thinking Don probably had a front rack on Katrina for the bag. Maybe something like this

oh great. I can't imagine what part is on the bike. I never noticed it before. (sigh)
I'd send a picture of what you have to Peter White http://www.peterwhitecycles.com or to Rivendell and ask what you are missing.
I got the pic from Peter White.

thank you so much!
We just had a customer "invent" an awesome decaleur for our Giles Berthouds, not as clunky as the ones in the photo and not as expensive. Here is the bike hermit blog post, with photos

let me know what you think, I am sure I can hook you up with a set if you are interested
oops, just spoke to the bike hermit and he said you still need the piece that bolts to the handlebar to use the ones we have on our bikes. Velo Orange also makes a decaleur but only works on threadless stem, Berthoud makes either style and I can help you out there as well.
I guess we're going to the LBS. My son wanted to just velcro it onto his bike. LOL.
Oh boy, I hope it is stable enough that way. There are such awesome, awesome bags. The one I use has over 4,000 miles on it.
no, I Told him he could NOT velcro a $300 bag to his bike. LOL
And duct tape is also RIGHT OUT!
