Yay!!!!!
Cool, happy new year!
Happy New Year, everyone.
Glad you got out to ride, Mimi. You deserve it.
Just got back from a 19 mile ride. It's the first time i've ridden on January 1st. Last year, it was just as warm, but we were up north.
I was overdressed, as the temperature must have been skirting 50 for the first half of my ride. That, and the fact I'm fighting a sinus thing, made me a bit cranky, but I unzipped and slowed down. Last night, it must have been a little icy, as the town had dumped enough salt on the roads to make it look totally white. At first, I thought there was black ice, but it was way too warm.
We stopped just to sit and people watch in Concord center and it was like a spring day. Tons of cyclists everywhere.
Awesome, Mimi!
I just did my first outside ride of the year as well - wind gusts to 21 mph :eek: I know some ride in more, but I rode my fendered bike, and it turns into a sail. At least I was outside on our last day of very unseasonably warm weather....
Hurray Mimi- I think the sun coming out for the New Year is a good sign!
Chuck and I did a ride out to Saguaro NP. We have been riding a lot this vacation and we had some wind too, so it was a very slow pace for us but a beautiful day- almost hot out!
oh and there's more!! Raleighdon and I went out and rode together this sunny afternoon for another 2.5 miles! This is the first real bike ride he's been on since his surgery in October!

We rode 19 miles yesterday---does that count? The wind died a little in the morning and it was pushing 50 degrees so we decided to get our New Year's Ride in on New Year's Eve and do our runs today. I'm glad we did since the wind is blowing 20 mph with 36 mph gusts today. It sure felt great to be riding outside for the New Year.
That's too awesome, Mimi! I'm so curious to know how he felt. He looks great. He's my hero.
That picture is awesome!
Came back from 20 km. today. It was -11 degrees C. He went a bit further.
I stopped to take photos of some guys playing ice hockey on skates on a frozen river area a few km. from home. Some parents were with little kiddies, skating around.
It's been decades, since I've lived in a city where people skated on frozen natural water bodies in winter!
That's great for Don, Mimi that he's on the bike outdoors.
DH and I did 26 miles today, in unseasonably warm temperatures hovering around 50 degrees. Such a change from 3 days ago when we were bundled up in heavy windproof tights and winter jackets!
It's a nice way to start the year and begin thinking about our cycling goals and plans for this year.
Mimi, I'm so happy that you and RD got outside today! You both deserve some fun and fresh air!
So happy Don is back outside on the bike! I hope the fresh air and sunshine made him feel as much better as it always does for me.
I was up way too late last night to get up in time for the club ride :o which I really wasn't planning on anyway, Sundays can get a little crazy. Running day for me. We rode the commuter bikes to the New Year's Eve celebration last night, though. :)
Wish I could say that I got my first ride of the year in today, but the weather was just way too cruddy. It was cold, rainy (with some snow flurries mixed in), and very windy - sustained winds around 25-30mph with gusts up to 50mph!!! No way am I riding in those conditions. I opted for the gym instead and got a decent workout in to start off the new year. Might be able to ride by next weekend with temps in the 40's forecasted. :)
