Bike Fitting

Hello Cycling Enthusiasts,

I'm looking for a nice friendly group to ride with. I live in New Bedford, southeastern Mass., and would be willing to travel out of my area to ride (within a 40 mile radius).

I'm also looking for a good place to go for a professional bike fitting. I rode with a group last month and one of the riders noticed that my pedals may not be centered and my seat was a little off too.

I used to be a long distance runner and now have bad knees and back ... look forward to getting my 'endurance fix' from long rides and meeting others who feel the same.

This is a link to the SE MA chapter of the Appalachian Mountain Club. I am a leader with the Boston chapter, so I can't attest to anything about the rides in this chapter, except AMC is more social than most bike clubs.

If you look on the left side, there is a link for the rides calendar, by the month. Some of the rides are in SE MA. CRW is a more traditional club.

Thank you! I actually ran across both of these groups online. It's kind of difficult to tell going in blind whether you might feel comfortable with a group. Maybe it's better to go on a ride with someone you know first, then at least you can trust at least one person in the group.

Group sports can be tricky ... hence the reason I used to love running because it's more of a solo sport. Sometimes you can join a group (in any sport) and there's a lot of drama going on before you even get to know anyone! That is totally not me! I just want to have a good time and enjoy my workout. :cool:

Sometimes you just have to hold your breath and jump in. You might find some nice people. And ask them about bike fit. I know there's a great bike shop in Salem... ask them about bike fit?

Narragansett Bay Wheelmen does lots of group rides in the area and has a great Century Ride (TFCE) in September. Check out their website for lists of rides and dates.
I have never ridden with them but see groups out and about when I am riding.
I have done TFCE and it is a well organized event

AMC does not have a lot of drama. The rides are fun and social. They require a leader and sweep and no one gets left behind. The "beginner" level rides are generally at an average of 10-12 mph and the intermediate rides are about a 14-15.5 average, but can include lots of miles and/or big climbs. There is a guy named Joe Tavilla that leads rides for the SE MA chapter, on the Cape. His rides are very friendly; he belongs to both clubs I listed and I have ridden with him a few times.

As Biciclista said, sometimes you just have to hold your breath and jump in ... I just don't want to experience another ride like my last. I had the accident, but may have had less of a chance of having an accident had I not been left behind. I don't want to mention the group's name because I'm not here to slander any one particular group, however I am trying to 'feel' my way around to find a group that will 'fit' my interests and share my interests.

Thanks for the info about AMC, I think I'll look them up and try to meet up with them hopefully soon when my hand heals and it is safe to ride again.

Thanks Biciclista ... that's exactly what I say! LOL! I don't tip my toe into the water before I jump in, I just jump in because the water is going to be cold whether you feel it or not. Just get the initial shock over with and then it's done! Simple as that!
