Road rash!!
Had my first crash last night since I started riding again back in 2008... I was riding home in the dark from a dinner party at a friend's house; despite the streetlights and the lights on my bike, I didn't see the big stick in the road until I hit it. Oops. Bad road rash on the elbow and a little on the knee and a bruised hip. And my helmet has a dent in it, so it's going to be replaced. Bike's fine, just lost a toe clip and the wheel that was about due for truing is now definitely needing truing.
Learned a lesson, though. I shouldn't have been going that fast in the dark (I was flying down the road!) and the 2 glasses of wine with dinner were probably not a good idea either!
But thank goodness for helmets! Looking at that dent, I would have been badly hurt without it...

Thank goodness you are okay. I love helmets. And at least it was a crash you can learn something from. Here's hoping nothing further develops from your crash.

Ouch! That's one of my biggest fears with riding in the dark. Glad you're okay.

 skhill,
Hope you're feeling better. Might be time for a new helmet. Since it's dented, the integrity of the outer shell is in question. It did it's job protecting your noggin, now it's time to retire.

Ouch! I hope you heal up soon!

Owie!
Rest and heal up. Even though road rash is minor in the scheme of injuries, it's major in terms of pain, and pain is exhausting. Take care.

The more I looked the helmet, the more damage I saw. I'm really glad I always wear one. I did wear it yesterday evening when I rode over to the bike shop to get new pedals, handlebar tape, and a new helmet, as even a damaged helmet is better than none at all. But I left the damaged helmet at the shop and rode home wearing the new one.
The bruises are coming up quite nicely! And my neck was incredibly stiff when I woke up this morning, probably from the crash. Just lucky it wasn't worse....
Wear that helmet!

OUCH! Glad you're OK. When commuting in the dark I'm always afraid of something jumping up and biting my bike. Rest up and take care! :)
