Any Ultra Endurance riders in TE?
I am looking for an Ultra Endurance anti chafe cream. Something that works on rides 6 hours or longer. I am sure that my bicycle fit is correct, my saddle and bib shorts are good. So far I've tried everything including: Assos, Chamois Butt'r, Hooha Ride Glide, DZ Nuts Bliss and had no success, these work ok on shorter rides but even when reapplying these creams while on the ride they do not provide enough protection for what I need.
There are probably a lot of different definitions here of Ultra Endurance, but I do rides up to 600k (though more regularly 100 - 200 miles), and find I just have to reapply chamois butter if I need it. (There are often rides I don't need it at all, and there are often times where chafing just happens regardless of what I do).
I have not yet found any appreciable difference in the type/brand in terms of longevity.

I have raced 24 hour MTB races and I do rides up to 10 hrs at a time and none of the regular creams will do it for me on the hard or long stuff either :( Give Endur-It chamois cream a try. Since I started using it on long rides or races all the issues with chafing are gone :) Okoole stuff is another choice, works on long rides but is very greasy, stains and don’t really care for the smell.
Well, I don't do the long rides, but IME, once you get over even 30-40 miles, creams with a lot of water in them like Chamois Butt'r are useless. The water dissipates and you're left with a whole lot of residue.
If you haven't tried pure shea butter yet, give it a try. It's not greasy and it doesn't break down - over time, whatever part of it slides away from where you want it, just gets absorbed into your chamois and helps lubricate more out-of-the-way places (or helps condition your leather saddle :) ). It only takes a little. I only need to re-apply it maybe every 50-60 miles, and I think that's more because it gets wiped off when I pee, than because it wears off. I carry it in a 1/2 oz jar in my jersey pocket.
One word: Lantiseptic. Buy the 50% lanolin version, not the 30% version. I just finished Paris-Brest-Paris. 765 miles in 88:45. My butt was pressure sore, yes, but NO chafing and no broken skin. That stuff is tenacious. It stays where you put it. :). My friend Cecil calls it butt spackle! I wouldn't ride an ultra without it.
I have tried several ones and prefer dznuts bliss for shorter rides and dznuts for longer ones. For somer reason that really works well for me.

Just Googled this stuff...would the 50% version be the "Skin Protectant"? Because I did see that the "Daily Skin Protectant" is the 30% version, but it doesn't say anywhere on the site which one is the 50% one...so I assumed it was the non-Daily Skin Protectant.Quote:

And fwiw, you may be fine at 20-30-50 mile distances, often times chafing doesn't make itself known until you get to century-plus distances, which is what the OP was asking about.

I don't claim to be an expert on this and have never bought a butt cream because I fear they may be using unsafe ingredients. I have cheap ol' mineral oil lying around the house and have used that a few times and I think it works great. No need to spend much money.
Except I think mineral oil and other petroleum-based oils can cause the foam in shorts chamois to break-down extra fast. So you may not be saving any money in the long run if you end up having to replace shorts prematurely.Quote:
