Ick!

I went out for a short ride this afternoon. The weather channel says it's 85 here, but with 66% humidity...so it feels like it's 93. I think I did three miles around my neighborhood before packing it in. I was definitely going faster than normal, but felt so sluggish. I came home drenched.

Luckily we should get a thunderstorm later today, and the rest of the week will be suitable riding weather. :D

I'm hoping for dry weather so I can get this silly driveway project done and complete. Double-ick factor ten!

I had thoughts about riding after work, so thanks for giving me a report... Even tho it means Im not riding :)

Huh. You must not've got the sudden thunderstorm this morning that appeared the minute I finished hanging my laundry. :rolleyes:

I didn't feel like running in lightning and pouring rain, so I got to do my intervals at noon on the solstice. It was only about 77° and 88% humidity.

I had to do it ... I had to weigh my bra after my run compared with an identical dry one. There were 80 grams of sweat in my bra alone. :eek::p People pay hundreds of dollars to shave 80 grams from their bikes, and here I could just let 'em swing free. :cool:

94 here. Fortunately it is a dry heat. We'll probably see 100 before the end of the day.

Ick, is right. The first summer I lived here in Colorado I climbed the hill near my house. It was warm but not terribly uncomfortable. Finished my ride and the announcer on the radio said it was 98 degrees. Impossible, I thought, I didn't break a sweat. Then I found out why, the humidity was 8%. That's why I live here and not Cincinnati. :)

BTW, on Sat I went skiing and plan to ski on July 4th. Just checked the temps. it's 70, time to go for a ride.

Nope, missed us entirely. There's a big one moving in right now--the radar has a big magenta splodge on it. I'm not complaining too much, since we need the rain (at least, the front lawn does...it has to share with trees), and the rest of the week should be perfect riding weather. I'll take Veronica's 94 and dry, though!

I'm with you. I hate humidity. I spent 28 years of my life in Florida, and am so happy to be close to Chattanooga where at least it's 94 with 85% humidity for just a few months of the year, rather than all year at 94 and 98%. I never understood the Florida retirement dream. It's HOT and STICKY and you are stuck in your house except in the morning and late afternoon. Except it's still sticky out. It's the only place I know of where it's normal to take 2 showers a day.
I don't know why it seems to sap all your energy, either. You just feel like a wet rag.

Or bringing in said laundry (which did eventually dry) in the hottest part of the day, 88° and 59% humidity (same dewpoint, just the higher temperature means the air can hold more moisture) - while trying not to sweat all over it. Only partially successfully.


The worst thing to me about the one summer I spent in Florida was having to run the AC even at night when the temperature was comfortable outside, because if you dared to open a window, the entire house would turn to mold overnight. :mad: I don't know which was worse, the knowledge of the waste, or having to breathe the dead air. I hate AC.

Dry heat is OK if it's 80, maybe even 90.
114 and dry heat? Stick your head in an oven at 450 degrees and that's what it feels like.

That was exactly what it felt like when I visited DBF two years ago in late July/early August. I went outside and felt like I should cover myself with egg wash or something.

I could never live in Florida--I can't handle humidity that high.

Current thermometer reading - 100.1 and the sensor is in the shade - only 20% humidity though!

Weather Channel website said there was only a small chance of rain before 7pm...so I risked it.

Made ONE loop around the park I ride during the week and the raindrops started. It was POURING as I got in my car after racking the bike. Pity it couldn't have held off a little longer, but I knew I was taking a risk.

It's 111 here with only 5% humidity, it's hot and when the wind blows I always think convection oven.

I know this thread is about weather, but I just saw the ickiest thing ever. At our local pizza place, a little kid licking the front window for several minutes. His parents seemed to either not notice or care. I was seated to get a great view, of tongue, smashed nose, and the streaks left behind, several feet worth. Ick.

That's really gross. Who knows what germs were being passed between the kid and the window. Ick!
