That is just terrible...so sad such a vibrant man lost his life.
Ugh. The fact that the driver has behaved aggressively toward cyclists in the past makes it that much worse.
Wow, that's egregious! I really hope this time they treat what happened as a serious crime.
It irritates me a little that the photo with the story is the dump truck driver being consoled. That would seem appropriate, say, if he hit a cyclist who ran a light/stop sign, and it wasn't blatantly the driver's fault. But this guy turned right into them. And he's obviously done similar stuff in the past.
(Not saying that the driver shouldn't be consoled - even if he was having road rage problems, I don't think he expected it would escalate to a dead cyclist - but just that the image of him being consoled doesn't mesh with the story).
OMG; what a tragedy. I simply can't imagine using my motor vehicle to hurt or intimidate someone and certainly not in a manner that could lead to someone's death. It's just awful.
I hate stories like this. They're depressing, and infuriating.
That driver is nothing less than a murderer. He already tried to murder another cyclist -- a misdemeanor, ha! -- which tells me this incident was a conscious, premeditated act.
(This is the kind of article Bethany1 needs to show her teenage son. This, and the dozens of other stories that appear here where cyclists are killed by spiteful, aggressive drivers.)
This is simply tragic. I hope justice is done.
I hope the family sues the driver and the company that employed the driver. I hope the wife sues on her own behalf for having to witness her husband's death. And I hope the driver goes to jail.
I just had someone cut in front of me to make a turn when I was in the bike lane. Scared me. The driver never noticed how close a call it was.
