Trimming eyebrows

OK, I freely admit it, I have bushy eyebrows. I've always sworn that I would never color my hair, or do anything about them - au natural and all that.
But, yesterday a new hairdresser trimmed them. She just did it, she was chatting at me, then picked up the trimmers they use to trim the back of the neck for very short haircuts, and without so much as a by-your-leave, she quickly ran them over my eyebrows... I was rather shocked and a little appalled, until I looked in the mirror- geez, I look better. It took her 30 seconds and no thought at all.
So, I'd like to continue, but don't know how. Do I buy a pair of trimmers? would scissors work? Is it often enough to wait until I get a haircut and go to the same woman?

You can find out what kind of scissors she used and go get some at a beauty supply shop and try it out. Or you can just have her do it when you get your haircut. I do that, but I have mine threaded. For me, it makes a difference because it seems to brighten my whole face. I didn't do anything with them for a long time, but I'm glad I do now.

Mimi - it's like plucking but all in one big swoop. Kind of like a more accurate waxing, if I recall correctly.

I trim my eyebrows. I pluck the necessary hairs, and then I brush my eyebrows a certain way and then trim them with super sharp, tiny scissors. I also use a brow gel every day (kind of like clear mascara) to control my eyebrows otherwise they look messy. I do keep them rather full though as the tidy but over-plucked look does not look right on my face.

i never had enough to trim. Better that way, I guess! (ouch!)

A very low-tech way of taming eyebrows. I was introduced to it by a friend from India, but apparently it started in Persia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Threading_%28epilation%29

ahhh... according to my boyfriend I have caterpillars for eyebrows. They don't lie next to my skin but stick out. And they're kind of wispy, too. So I just use those trimmers (one line of shaver sort of thing with an attachment to adjust the length). I think men's nose/ear trimmer is the same thing but probably call it something different.

I also pluck the wayward ones that enhance the caterpillar look. My eyebrows are the least favourite feature of my face.

your eyebrows sound like mine, but I think my downward-facing mouth is my least favorite feature, LOL.

I have Andy Rooney eyebrows.

Every month or so I trim them by running a comb "backward" over the brows, trimming every hair that sticks up beyond the comb.

I also pluck between my brows, choosing the victims by scowling and then yanking out every hair that sticks straight out from my skin when I scowl. It is asymmetrical, but it ends up looking just fine because my face is somewhat asymmetrical anyway. I also pluck wayward critters that are creeping south of the rest of their brethren.

My mom has had her brows threaded, and loved it. She says I should do it, but I'm quite happy with my own (free!) monthly maintenance program.

I cannot do my own brows--I get nauseated for some reason. I would if I could, but I have some weird anti-plucking thing going on.

Wow, tulip - I'm fine with plucking (though it makes me sneeze) but I get weird about filing my nails. I just can't do it. It's giving me goosebumps just thinking about it.

I pay good money to have my hair stylist wax and trim my eyebrows each time I get my hair cut and it's worth every penny. I've had mine threaded before too and they look great but I have to go out of town to get it done. Not practical.

I just can't do it myself. It's always been difficult for me to get them even and now I can't see well enough. It's worth a few bucks to let a professional do it.

I can't say I've ever had my eyebrows trimmed but I've been waxing them for years and, more recently, switched over to threading. It's hurts a lot more but the end results last longer and pull less on the delicate eye skin. More hurty but less wrinkles. :D

My stylist says, "We pluck chickens. We tweeze brows."

I found Sally Hansen's home waxing kit to be very effective with my own monthly maintenance. And I tweeze in between any stragglers. I'm starting to get sprouters all over my chin and jawline, too.

However did our great-grandmothers do it?
