Yeah, that one caught me off guard. I was glad I hit the snooze button instead of going out for a run as intended this morning.
I was sleeping on the couch in my sunroom, so it was a really impressive wakeup.
I think it caught the weathermen off guard, too. I always check the weather before I get on my bike in the morning and there wasn't even a storm on the radar. Just sprinkles. I made it to work just before the sky turned black.
I'm in NY right now, but I saw pictures of flooding at 15th and Constitution. Crazy.
It totally missed us... as most of it seems to be doing these days. Not entirely a good thing, as we really need rain.
We went into town not realizing that half the traffic lights were out. An entire county southwest of us has no electric.
I live 7-10 miles from work, depending on the route. It took me 90 minutes to get in today. Dang I need to get comfortable riding my bike in!
A co-worker rides in and she just said she got here just as the skies were opening up and ran, leaving her bike unlocked, into the lobby to beat the rain. It didn't last that long so she was able to get out there and lock it pretty quickly. :)
I left my sunroof open.
Again.
My kayak is filled with water.
Again.
Tropical Depression #5 hit here. I tested my car's ability to swim when I tried to get to the office, no luck, then more testing when I tried to get home. There was a respite in the WallyWorld parking lot - boy was I happy to see "high ground". Gotta love the "localized flooding" around here. You'd think they'd think about drainage better in a place that gets over 5 ft of annual rainfall. Not so much. Then again, how do you create topography in a swamp?
So today was a "liberal leave" day. But if I rode my bike, I would have actually gotten to the office. At least bicycles don't konk out in several inches of water. :p
Not much longer, Beth ;)
I'm getting warning texts about tornado warnings and more flooding in the DC area. Meanwhile I don't think we've had any rain here today, just clouds.
Apparently there was some flooding in downtown Fredrock but I haven't seen photos yet.
