CW-x shorts
I've looked at the size chart. I'm 5'4 120 lbs which says I should be a small. Unlike other shorts they're not sized by waist and hip - mine is 29" and 37". I have small ventilator.......and I just got M tri shorts and they seem pretty small. Can anyone help with their waist/hip?

I didn't even know they made tri shorts, so I can't help you with those directly.
But I'm just about your twin. Same weight, same waist, same hips, an inch shorter. I'm in Small Ventilator tights, Small Insulator tights, Small Stabilyx tights (can you tell I love my CW-X?). If anything, I'd like them to be just a teensy touch smaller, but I don't think I could go down to an XS.
They are compression garments, so they're supposed to fit snugly. All three models fit pretty much identically, so I guess I'd be surprised if the tri shorts were much different.
Does that help?
ETA: You will note that the picture on Zappo's website, as slender as the model is, she still has a teeny bit of muffin top. That's how compressive they're supposed to be. On me, the running tights have a much higher rise, so it's not so noticeable.

I will echo what Oakleaf said about the amount of compression causing a slight "muffin top" at the waistline. I have 2 pairs of the Pro Shorts (not the Tri)...I fall into the Medium range, but I opted to get them in a size Large. They definitely fit snug and while I do have a bit extra "fluff" at my waist...these shorts seem to accentuate that unsightly feature even more. I just wear a looser fitting top to cover it all up. :D
