Saw one tonight; the guy had built it himself at this studio.
Of course, I know nothing about bamboo bikes. And they are entirely impractical in NYC where thieves abound. Still...it looked so cool.

but definitely look and enjoy!
The owner of my local bike shop (also where my partner works) has a bamboo bike. His son made it for him somewhere on the East Coast, I don't know company though. They are really cool.
I shouldn't have clicked that link.
They have bamboo bike kits. You can build your own bamboo bike no matter where you live.

yeah i am now saving up for a kit
Don't they also make bamboo bikes at Calfee? a couple of people I know got bamboo bikes and I seem to recall they mentioned buying from Calfee...
Oh, dude, Bamboo Bike Studio has a frame building class in San Francisco this fall.
$632 to build a frame
$948 with components (who cares if they are low grade, you build your frame and you learn how to build the complete... switch 'em later, eh?)
ETA: did you look at the slideshow? Did you *LOOK* at the slide show? Swoon! Ok, nothing else will do for my next bike except making my own bamboo bike.
I was so hoping someone here would tell me why a bamboo bike is a bad idea.
Enablers! Each and every one of you!:D
PamNY, I think you should sign up and make your own bamboo bike! It's skill-building! Do it, do it!
If you do sign up and build a bike (do it, do it, do it) you need to write up a review for all of the rest of us drooling over the idea of making our own bikes. It would be a grand community service.:) (do it, do it, do it)
