I got her...well him
Hello all,
After being a professional lurker for almost a year now, I decided its time to ride. I purchased my first bike in 20+ years, and first road bike ever. The 4th of July sale at my chosen LBS is where I he was born a Cannondale CAAD9. To say I was overwhelmed with the bikes to choose from and the people swarming around I stayed focused, well some what. Now I need you help, bike (check), helmet (check), gloves (check), road id (in the mail)... for a first time rider what else should I "need" to have on me.

Glasses to keep the cooties out of your eyes.
There are a million zillion other things you can buy, but wait until you've done some riding and discovered your own needs and preferences.
Eye injury (glasses), head injury (helmet), road rash on hands (gloves) are all real downers, so protect yourself first and go riding!
Ride lots!

Congrats on the bike! I'm sure it'll be a sweeeeeet ride! I say you need a pair of nicely padded chamois shorts for increased comfort in the saddle :)

Pedals? (or were they just angled down?), bottle cage/s? Maybe under seat bag, something fun like

carry a drivers license, some money, your cell phone and perhaps a low level credit card whenever you ride- in your jersey pocket- cell phone in a sandwich bag if you are like me and sweat like a trojan.

Thanks for the help guys. Yeah, I got the pedals (universal? w/SPD option) the shoes I have from spinning. I had a game plan of stuff to get while waiting in the line, but time they opened, I went blank all I could remember was my 52" frame size.

A pair of good shorts will keep your hiney happy for longer, but as she said, patience and a smile will take you even further :)
