Assos?

I need more shorts as i have found, for the first time in my life, that I need to be actually riding commando. (maybe it is my weight? :rolleyes: I am technically 'ideal biking weight', but I am about 8lbs up from my normal)
I have a rash today...

Anyway, I have 3 pairs of shorts that I rotate. 1 pair of Sheebeast Century Elite's and 2 pairs PI Short Attack. I actually like the PI's more.

Has anyone used Assos? My guy friend has Assos bib's that he got when in the height of saddle sores, and he loves them. Assos's are a rather large investment for me

I have a pair of assos shorts - they have thick padding that is a little bit overkill for short to medium rides, but they are my absolute faves for really long rides - just need to keep the chamois well buttered.

Assos are my favorite shorts. The fabric is excellent---supportive but not too tight. Agree w/Mal that the chamois is thicker but goes the distance well. The shorts are very high quality in every regard (construction, styling, materials, etc). Not cheap but with proper care, I expect that I'll get several years of use out of them.

Cycling shorts are designed for the wearer to be commando ;)

Everyone has their favorite shorts but I have heard good things about the Assos.

Sorry for the hijack, but what about the chamois in the bibs?

Has anyone tried these? The chamois looks very interesting and I like that it isn't paneled. I want to try this pair when my current bibs eat the dust, but don't want to spend that kind of money, for a thickly padded chamois that is going to drive me bonky.

thanks! I've seen them online for 154-190$ (the shorts). I'd rather toss my money at the LBS, and I will have to make a stop on my way home from work. :) *oh the chore!*
They are one of the 2 places that carries Assos - I think in all of New England?

Unfortunately, I am trainer bound all weekend. I am on call for work, and tethered to my laptop. I suppose the friction of a trainer will be a good test for the suckers!

I use a lot of Assos clothing, and especially like their time trial skinsuits. Their regular bibs are great, I own both of the following models and love them:

One especially good thing about Assos clothes is that they last for years and years.

I have several pairs of Assos - capri, bibs and knicks - and would go Assos entirely if I could afford it. The chamois is thick but I find it excellent, and the only choice over 100km (except for some Giordana bib tights). On the knicks, the waistband front is Lycra so it doesn't cut into you. I wouldn't have thought them worth it when I started, but I do now. Until recently, our Assos retailer was very expensive but I suspect the competition from the online UK stores has brought them back a bit; not sure how they are priced in the US.

I will never again waste my money on anything other than Assos shorts... they are simply that good, and worth the money! Look online for sales, that helps a little bit!

Another Assos fan. In fact I had mine on today for a 62 mile ride. Waiting for my LBS to get more in, they are worth every penny.

I bought one pair at the LBS at msrp. I wore them on the trainer yesterday (have to be on trainer this week since I have a required 15 minute response time for work -- on call... bleh!). Usually the trainer is where my 'parts' get most sore. The test was a huge success... and OMG they feel so good! (as the BF puts it - 'they feel like sex'.

Then, I contemplated the fact that I only have 4 pairs of shorts... If commando - then I need to use and wash 2 pairs of shorts *every day*! (I commute to/from work). The laundry in my building costs $2. That's going to get expensive and annoying.

Next, I activated the credit card that came in the mail from Bank of America. And... ooops! Somehow I ended up ordering 4 pairs of shorts, 4 more pairs of socks, and Park Tool chain stuff.

doh!

I feel giddy even if it was impulsive and financially a bit unwise. I am getting 'battle pay' for being on call right now, so I suppose it is ok. The extra pay covers only like 1/5th of what I just spent though :eek::D
