Okay, I'm all ready to take off on my first trip out of the neighborhood on my new bike and I must say I'm a little nervous. I only have to go about 1/3 mile on a busy street until I get onto a safe bike path but my nerves are shot!

I certainly understand this, but just dive in and have fun! It is certainly easier the second time around - I speak from my protracted experience of TWO rides on the road :p

Friends? Me? I'm really not that likable! LOL! Anyhoo...I DID IT, I DID IT, I DID IT! I really was a wreck in the traffic but once I got over to the other side it was smooth sailing and a gorgeous day. I'm not sure how far I went because I haven't figured out the computer yet, but it took me an hour at a pretty decent clip. I even crossed a small bridge over the intercoastal waterway into Wrightsville Beach (NC). I'm feeling pretty darn cocky right now. That CANNOT be a good thing.Quote:

As others have said, it does get easier.
It's been my experience that my imaginings are much worse than reality. Talk about being my own worst enemy! When I finally do something - ride a new route or distance - I wonder what I was so worried about??!!

I alternate between irrational terror and equally irrational fearlessness but it's best when I can feel quiet and just go ride.
