Has anyone done Cruisin the Conejo? (or doing it?)

I'm thinking about doing Cruisin the Conejo century on May 8th. It has 6,000 feet of climbing, which will be good training for the 8500 I'm doing May 23rd in Heartbreak Hundred (which I did last year, much to my amazement).

I read a ride report that talked about a 3 mile section on Mulhulland that sounds torturous. Anyone have any experience they want to share?

Doing the short century? or the full century? You not doing the easy century.

The full century will take you down through Camillo its a steep long descent then you get to come back up later, steep long climb. Pace yourself and its not bad.

It's bit chilly at 6:30 in the morning but generally warms up in the afternoon. Fun ride. I've DNF'ed twice. Once when my riding partner crashed into a back of a parked pkup doing about 22MPH. I went to the hospital, checked on him, called his wife and waited for her to show up. As the Brits would say "bloddy mess!". Second time, I was sick and chucked biscuits at mile 10 or so. Limped back to the car, went home and straight into my bed.

It's a fun ride if you can finish, :rolleyes::rolleyes:

Mulhulland isn't that bad. Great training route.

The muholland section isn't bad - about like GMR or Glendora Ridge. The bad part was the descent done - way steep with a lot of sharp curves

Wow, Smiling Cat! I hope your riding partner was okay. OUCH!!! And the throwing up doesn't sound fun either.

Let’s just start out by saying that whoever put the word ‘Cruisin’ into the ride description has one sick sense of humor!


AND ...

The “real fun” begins right around mile 28 on old Mullholand Highway. Without warning the pitch of the road turns skyward. Some veteran riders say that parts of this stretch are in excess of a 13% incline. Once you hit that first pitch, it will not let up for 3 miles and once you reach the top, you climbed 1180 feet over those few miles.

So if it hits 13%, it must be for short bits, because GMR never hits 13 that I'm aware of. Your description makes me feel better since I know GMR. Doing it tomorrow, in fact. And if I can do Heartbreak Hill at like 80 miles into the ride, I'm sure I can handle this little bump on Mulhulland. Ha ha ha!!! :D
