How to get a mention on Boing Boing?

Hello all! Since this is the only forum I belong to I'm going to ask y'all for some non-biking advice. I made a quilt that is being auctioned on ebay right now, 100% of the proceeds will go to Doctors without Borders. With 7 days to go it's already at $810 and I'd like to promote it as much as possible!

I DO have a facebook fan page (hooey batiks) and the info is there, I've sent an email about it to everyone I know, I've even twittered. What I'd LOVE is to get a mention on Boing Boing or some other high traffic blog. So I've got 2 questions. First, is it is it kosher for ME to send tips to these places (hooey batiks schilling the hooey batiks) or would they be more likely to pay attn to a tip if it comes from a different name?

Second, can you think of any blogs or sites that might be interested in plugging the auction? It IS for charity! And it's a really cool quilt (horn tootin'!)!

I batiked the material for the squares and the backing, assembled the quilt then had a friend do the machine quilting. Total time was close to 3 weeks.

Sorry I don't have an answer for your question...but it's neat what you're doing. Awesome quilt- wish I could afford to bid!

There's nothing wrong with self-promotion. You should contact everyone you can think of who might publicize your project. Beautiful quilt, by the way.

I know that yarnharlot.ca does a lot for Doctor's without Borders, you might try to contact her. She has a huge blog following.

cool. Thanks everyone! I've managed to maneuver my way around flickr (possibly the most counter-intuitive photo sharing site ever) and have shared the quilt with some groups on there.

As much work that went into it, I want it to go to someone with lots and lots of money! Wish I could keep it myself.

I'll keep you posted on how it all goes!

I am a long time quilter and I absolutely love the fabrics that you made. They are just gorgeous. It takes me way longer than three weeks to make a quilt, though!! You must have a streamlined process!! Good luck with your fundraiser. Doctors without Borders is a really wonderful group to do it for.

Annie, I'm not actually sure how long it took my friend to do the quilting. She had it for a couple of weeks. What took me the longest was batiking the material. Sewing the squares was pretty easy, simple stripes! I figure I'm a batik artist before anything else, and then I can sew simple quilt squares. I DO have another larger quilt I've been hand quilting for the past 2-3 years, on and off. That's more my speed. But I kind was possessed, obsessed with this one!
