Just 1 hr. ago we were watching a huge jumbotron screen at one of the public gathering spots nearby. For a women's ski event, the winners had medals placed 'round neck and flower bouquets.
I was just surprised when watching both the women's and men's mogul events over the weekend. Especially the men's, when a Canadian man won the first gold medal in an Olympics hosted by Canada!
The Canadian coverage has been saturated with this "Own the Podium" business, and they kept bringing up that no Canadian had won a gold in the Montreal or Calgary Olympics. And then here comes the Big Moment, and there's no medal in the podium picture?!?
All they had was a bouquet of ferns.

ETA: I saw later in the evening that they did a separate medal presentation the next day at an indoor venue (probably in town) for the women's moguls. Probably a better setup for the media, but still seems strange to me to do two separate ceremonies.
