best method of payment

I need to get paid by someone who doesn't have a PayPal account. Can I still send him an invoice for him to pay by credit card or bank info if he's not signed up, or is registration a matter of course to use it?

As he's in America and I'm in Canada, paying by check is difficult, unless it's a certified check. I probably have to go through that route, but PayPal definitely would be the easiest.

You can send him a Request for Payment via PayPal, that he can use a credit card to pay.

I don't have a PayPal account, and I've done this a few times.
