This is the one I wear for running and high-impact aerobics. The link is to Champion USA, but a lot of re-sellers have the bra, and they claim to have an Aussie site "coming soon." The bra isn't specifically built for a HRM, but it works well - the band stays below the strap in front, it doesn't pull the contacts out of place, and it creates a little pocket between the breasts where the sending unit tucks in nicely. I do sometimes get a little bit of chafing on the corners of my ribs on longer runs, but never on the bike.
I need lots of support for high impact, but they're not very large. On the bici I wear a cheaper, less supportive version of the same bra - C9 is a brand Champion sells only in Target stores, which I'm not sure if you have those in Australia or if maybe they have another private label for one of your department stores. If not, I'd be happy to send you one to try. For cooler weather I have an Ibex bra, which is wonderfully comfortable and about the same support level as the C9 bras, but doesn't grip the HRM quite as well.
IME, it depends a little on the type of HRM strap that you have. My old clunky plastic one was forever getting knocked out of place by my underwire sports bras (won't wear anything else). The comfort band for my new Suunto HRM seems to stay in place much better because there's almost no plastic. The transmitter is the only plastic piece and fits nicely between the girls.
That said, I really like the Moving Comfort Cara bra for just about anything. It doesn't look like it should provide enough support for running and mountain biking, but I prefer it to my Bendon Sport super-bras.
I'm larger on top than average and I really like my Moving Comfort Maia bras.. they're the only "sports bras" I've ever had that were actually supportive. I find them quite comfortable too :)
I don't even use the strap for my HRM (cateye).. I just shove it under the bra band. It has *never* come out accidentally.
Thanks for the info!
I saw some Champion bras yesterday but wasn't so sure about their reputation so didn't buy them.
I'll have to see if I can find Moving Comfort bras down here...It might just end up being another coolio shop on the TE site :D
On my most recent mtb rides I wore a regular bra under my Ground Effect bra top thing but think there's a better solution.
I need regular bras as well
I found a hrm that doesn't have the chest strap, a company called Mio makes them. I had not known those existed until about 2 months ago. Must be out of the loop I guess! I'm not fond of wearing a watch, but I got it thinking I would try to do some interval training in the spring.
