Forever "lost" favourite item-at home

Do you have something at home, but you have not been able to locate it for years? And whenever you remember, it sort of niggles at you because it means something to you?

Dumb as this may sound, but I loved my hardbound version Roget's Thesaurus. I know, I know, ..I use the online version. But it's not the same. And there have been several occasions I really didn't want to boot up the computer just to check online thesaurus.

This thing was a pet reference text that I had for decades and used thereafter. It's been "lost" ever since we moved to Vancouver. 2002. Guess I'll find it one day.

Any others as pathetic as I am in terms of a "lost" favourite item at home?

I have a uni-bar pannier that bolts on with a nice padded clamp to my seatpost.

Where oh where can it be??? This is the SECOND time its been lost for so long. I found it and said, oh better no leave it off again, put it somewhere safe.

Im not sure where that somewhere safe is , but it sure is safe from me.

I might have 1-2 cycling things abit 'lost' but feel I can find them. Just need to take more time to root around.

While I can't find my beloved thesaurus, my partner knows where he stored his little films that he made when he was 15 yrs. old with his movie camera that bought from hard-earned money when he had a newspaper route.

You have to realize that these films are over 50 yrs. old!! :eek:
I didn't even know he had this stuff. :p He is a careful rat pack and does accumulate less stuff than I.

Anything that goes into a "safe place" in my house is lost for ever.

I had a teddy bear when I was about 4 or 5. When we moved to Ohio, I could suddenly no longer find him, but only realized this about 6 months after the move. I still wonder where he is, but after eighteen years, I'm pretty sure I lost him in the move. :(
On a more practical note, I keep a spare cell phone charger at my house. No one's been able to find it since I pointed out it was missing in October.

Oh yeah; we are still searching for the "Swear machine" that we bought at a joke store in 1987. We hid it from the (little) kids, but it did manage to move across the country with us. Then, it suddenly disappeared around the mid nineties. My DH even questioned both of the grown up kids if they had taken it. Their reply was, "Are you nuts?"
It's definitely somewhere in our stuff, but... I know, it's pretty stupid.

i keep a list in my head of lost stuff going back to my childhood. When I was 12, my mother had a midlife crisis and found the first man she could who would take her to California and left... My sister and I were safe with my father, but most of our belongings (that we didn't take with us in paper sacks) was eventuallly disposed of. I will not bore you with the details, but I still miss some of that stuff and have labored over the years to replace it. As a result, I have had serious trouble throwing away my children's toys, even when THEY indicated years ago that they didn't want the stuff..:eek::eek::eek::eek:

I somehow lost a Friskars self-healing cutting mat and large grid printed ruler that came with a rotary cutter (I still have the cutter). It's the best thing for cutting fabric. I have been looking for them for 2 years now. I almost bought a new one, but the set is really expensive, and I can't help but think it will turn up as soon as I buy the new one.

I lost a string of prayer beads that I bought from some Tibetan Buddhist monks who did a presentation in our town. They have to be in my house somewhere (the beads not the monks ;)). I feel like I must not deserve them, and they will come back to me when and if I do :(

Thought of another one:
I bought some buttons to put on a pair of convertible mittens/fingerless gloves. One of them is sewn securely to its glove. The other two are missing. They're somewhere in my dorm, but where exactly is beyond me.

I seem to have lost my girl guide campfire blanket...It didn't come to Perth with us & I didn't see it on my short stop @ my mom's house last year...I don't have a clue where it is.

At least I still have my guide hat & my large collection of pins from round the world :)

Bah! Yesterday when I read this thread, I totally knew what you were talking about, but as I have moved two times in the past year, I have either tossed or found most things I was missing. Though last night I came up with a doozey (for me anyway). It has been really cold here. I have a 2003 Subaru that decided two years ago it really just won't start if it is below 0F outside. So, I put in an engine block heater. Being super cheap, I refused to leave it plugged in all night, so I bough an outdoor extension cord and a nice timer so it would turn on 2hrs before I needed to leave home. As I mentioned, I have moved 2x recently, and I just cannot find the timer. It's not much of a problem usually, as I ride my bike to work now, but it would be nice to warm up my cold little car a bit before I go see the equids at night.... now I just have to plug it in by hand... woe is me :rolleyes:

A bit of a drift, but it made me think of this thread...last night I decided to move some stuff around my closet, and see what's back in the depths. I found a cute pair of Camper shoes I only wore a couple of times! They were totally "out of site, out of mind". Funny, I was just thinking I needed little black flats. Score!

Intriguing, the things that we value, lost for so long. :)

I have a lovely pea-style (I guess that's how the original British style is described?) cashmere wool 3/4 length winter coat in a beautiful bright scarlet red. Wore the coat for several winters and because of its style is classic. Because of its colour it, tended to make me feel warm and cheery on dreary winter days.

Have lost one of its buttons. It must have fallen off....which means I probably have to replace ALL the buttons if I want to wear this coat since 1 button is hard to match/find in store. That will probably cost me over $10.00 just for buttons... :eek: So I've procrastinated for a long time now. Right now, not a screamin' need but the coat is just too nice and classic to discard.

Even a lost button can make a difference. :(

The lense fell out of my glasses. I searched everywhere, and I know it's in the house. Had to replace my glasses....
