You People

So the other day, my dear spouse is riding down the road in his full gear, raincoat, hat, reflectors all over him. He is on a 4 lane road and the light changes. A cyclist in front of him goes through the light but he stops in the right lane. A motorist comes up beside him and screams at him "You people ought to obey the f#@%#$% law" My husband is stunned, responds, "Sir, I stopped at the light!" and the motorist says "him" and points to the guy disappearing down the road....

My husband (fortunately ) didn't say another word.....:(

Ooh, let me play!

He could have screamed back: "Yes! You people should!!"

And if the motorist said "Huh? Who, me?", he could have pointed down the road and said "No, him."

That would have made a nicely bizarre kind of Monty Python sketch.

The easiest way to get me riled up is for someone to start a sentance with 'you people.'

wha... LPH? According to the free dictionary it can stand for a whole lotta interesting things, such as:

Amphibious Assault Ship (someone didn't quite get the hang of acronyms here)

...and my favourite:

But more mundanely, it's just my initials, used everywhere at work.

Nowadays 99 times out of 100, when you see FTW on the 'net, that's what they mean.

I'm used to seeing it on tattoos and stickers. Where TW still stands for The World in some subcultures and F stands for what F usually stands for when you have to abbreviate it. :rolleyes: When I first learned it, decades ago, TW stood for The War...

Oh, good, someone else remembers that.
Maybe that's why the nice policeman on the Boston Common asked me if my mother knew I was hanging out down there (it was on my t shirt)

When I was in the army, FTA was quite popular and probably still is

Ironically, in the South, that's become a derogatory phrase. No one seeking to be taken seriously would use it.

What Mr. S said... Down here in Dixie, any speech that starts off with "You people..." means somebody's getting their butts chewed out six ways from Sunday.

But then again, starting off with "Y'all..." has a much nicer impact ;-)
