In the dark, wearing black, and headphones. I think my lights startled him. I was on the right side of the path, coming out of the tunnel. He saw me and swerved as he came to the tunnel. By the sounds of it, he crashed in the tunnel. I would've gone back to see if he was ok, but by the way he was swearing and threatening to "kick my @**" I decided it was better to keep going. I feel bad.

I wouldn't feel too bad for him- better you should miss him then a car hit him although it sounds like he's a slow learner.
Recently on a long slow climb up a a mountain pass, my riding companioon and I spent a fruitful period debating a similar question shortly after a not so smart driver coming down the narrow two lane curvy road too fast just about spun out going around a curve ahead of us, nearly taking us both out in the process. The questiion was, given the circumstances of a long slow 8,800 foot climb, and a reckless driver spinning out a curve or two below you, would you go back and try to render aid, even though doing so would mean that you have to reclimb thhe route? Our general conclusion was that we would call 911, report the accident and alert the next car passing in either direction but that we would probably not go back and rescue the idiot.

I wouldn't feel too bad about it either. Guys like him are an example of natural selection at work. It won't be long before he's taken out of the gene pool. Problem solved :D

maxxie, Your replay reminded me of two delightful and in a bizarre way apropos to the discusssion books by Saron McCrumb. They are "Zombies of the Gene Pool" and "Bimbos of the Death Star."
In my family- the favorite way of showing disapproval of behaviour was to blow a sharp between the teeth whistle and shout "you, out of the gene pool."

ROTFL! You have made me feel MUCH better! A bunch of guys ran in front of our car on a busy street last night in the dark. DH wondered if one of them had recent skateboard injuries.:eek:

The kid 3 doors down is always (I mean always) on his skateboard, jumping curves etc. He really likes my driveway, it's the steepest in the neighborhood. I really have to watch out for him when backing my car. On my bike, I usually let it be known I'm there so he doesn't take me out.
Yesterday when i came home from a short ride, he was standing on the curve at the base of my driveway on crutches. I looked down to see a big 'ole cast on his ankle - and that he was standing on his skateboard.
He seems like a nice kid, though.
I hope, Deb, that yours was cursing at himself for wiping out, and not at you for having a headlight!
