Moonlight Memorial Monument Ride
October 31st
START: PAC HI Hostel - 11th & K Street, NW
Gather at 8:00PM - Rides starts at 8:30 PM

See our Nation's Capitol as few have on Halloween night. Moonrise is 4:39 PM, so the moon will be very helpful. From the Capitol to the Washington Monument, from the Lincoln Memorial to Haines Point on the banks of the serene rippling night time Potomac. Illuminated granite buildings, quiet streets, easy parking, and low traffic will contribute to a memorable experience. Participants will be given a cue sheet and receive limited emergency mechanical support from roving mechanics on bikes, but organizers request that bikes be in working shape before beginning the 15 mile ride. The ride is free of charge but donations, recommended $10, are encouraged for the Potomac Area Council of the non-profit Hostelling International, formerly AYH. Bikes must be equipped with working lights, and organizers will have some available at wholesale cost. Support provided by Mt Airy Bicycles/College Park Bicycles. We can do our trick or treating by bike. How about going to the White House?

Oooh, that would be fun! I wonder what kind of candy they'd hand out? But I'll have three kids in tow and one adult who doesn't know how to ride a bike. I've been trying to teach her for 35 years and she still can't get it. This is completely defeating me--I've managed to teach any number of kids to ride bikes, but my sister is hopeless.

Of course, she's been trying to teach me to sew for about the same number of years and I'm just not getting it!

That sounds like an excellent ride, but I'm going to be in Philly for All Hallow's Eve. Gotta put this on the list as a potential idea for next year, though.

Kali, when did you not have to suffer through pictures of everything I've done and seen in excruciating detail?

We did one of those guided tours last spring. It was a great family memory.
I highly recommend this for visitors. They provide the bikes, a guide and even a snack. We expedited, got a little exercise, saw more monuments and the guide provided a lot more history and interesting information than we would have gotten by just walking around.

Hope you get some of your "locals" to join you on this ride. I am sure it will be fun.
