SpinDizzy Du 2/2 RR
Did another Du on August 23.
Orillia Duathlon
We have a fractional ownership (kind of like a timeshare, but we own the cottage and property with others) of a cottage in the Haliburton Highlands about 2.5 hours from Toronto. Our summer week was to start August 23, Orillia was on the way. Perfect!
Went up the night before, DH and DD had a soccer game the evening of the 23rd - they were coming up after. Of course the hotel I was staying at would place me under a bunch of hooting and hollering guys...I thought to myself- why did I bother?..should have just got up extra early and driven. Stupidly hopeful for a good nights sleep?...
The day ended up being cool and cloudy (like most of our summer). Ok by me!
Did first 2k at a 5:10/km pace. Transitioned ok. Started the 33k bike, the first hill about 30 seconds after starting..that was fun. But there was a wheelchair athlete in his recumbent thingy using just his arms to get up this hill...I shall not complain. I encouraged him as I went by. Arms to propel instead of legs..now that is one tough athlete!!!!
I had totally forgotten how rolling this course was, and the last half seemed one hill after another. Near the end, was following another 2 guys in front of me. They went the wrong way  and I was following! I heard a whistle and a guy waved us down to tell us we had missed our turn...lesson learned..Do NOT assume the people in front of you know where they are going. That added on about 40 secs. Bike was slower that I had anticipated 1:09:48. Finished with a 7k run at a 5:20 pace.
Total time: 1:59:21
2k 10:19 5:19 pace
T1 1:00
33k 1:09:48 28.4kph
T2 1:01
7k 37:15 5:20 pace
Finshed 3/6 in my age group. Faster than last year on this course by about 3 minutes. Even though my finish was respectable, I realize that I really didn't go into the race with a plan. It doesn't feel right, like goals weren't accomplished..I can't explain it. Perhaps it was just a long time from my other race..or my lack of planning reflected my need for a vacation.
Anywas last du for the season coming up on Saturday ..and the weather promises to be H & H. My most unfavourite kind of weather and considering we've had none this summer, no training has been accomplished in these conditions. Wish me luck!!!
Sorry, no pics..was all by myself.

I'm sure you'll do great - it sounds like you learned something, but still came out well. Improving last year by minutes is awesome, too, especially considering the lack of restful sleep, minor detour, and brain drain. ;)
