Bike Church

Hi,
We now have a bike church in Tucson. Its awesome. Students built it over the summer as an art project. Here is a link to more info http://tucsoncitizen.com/art/2009/07...mmer-vacation/

Its made mostly out of bike parts. The stainglass was also designed and made by students. There are a couple of wind chimes and a couple of places to put memorial candles.

It will also light up at night. I haven't seen that yet. If you want to go take a look its on Main and Davis, off of Saint Mary's, just east of the Freeway.

BTW, how is Tucson as a bike-friendly city?

I don't know how to compare it exactly. I used to bike in cities before they started to put in bike lanes. Then I didn't bike for a while and now here I am in Tucson. There is a strong bike community and they are trying. There are some multi-use paths and there are a lot of bike lanes, but they don't carry on thru the length of the street. I've found it hard to get across town. And like all places there are some real jerks. Share the Road means they should have it and I should ride in the gutter.

I lived in Tucson when I attended UofA, and miss it terribly. I told my DH that I'm retiring there. He's welcome to join me- because that's where I'll be. ;)

I find Tucson to be, if not always bike friendly, very bike accessible. As coyote points out there are some shortcomings--as there must be anywhere--but overall there are many bike lanes and bikeways to be found and improvements/expansions being made to existing ones. For example, I commute to/from school on a designated bikeway--a residential street that has limited auto traffic, special traffic light actuators for cyclists, etc. It's pretty fantastic. :D
