Snap Fitness -- any experiences, good or bad?

Does anybody belong to or use one of the Snap Fitness centers? I need to get serious about working with weights, and joining a gym is probably my best option. (Trying to do it at home just isn't going anywhere....) The least expensive option (of several) in my town is the nationally-franchised Snap Fitness, which appears to offer a wide range of equipment without a lot of frills. It fits my budget and is open 24/7, but before I jump in I thought I'd see if any TE'ers have yea's or nay's to offer...........Thanks, as always, for any advice and insights!

I belong to Snap Fitness in my town. Definitely no frills - no showers, pool, or classes, but I really don't need those anyway. They don't have many free weights, which is a hinder to me sometimes (this could just be my location). I like it. It's definitely convenient with my hours. Another nice thing is that you can suspend your membership with them for $5 - say during the summer months when you're outside more. Cheap, which is nice. Mine is fairly crowded, which is hard for such a small location. I don't like a crowded gym, especially when the room is so small.

To be honest, I'm probably going to cancel my membership with them soon. I'm trying to cut down expenses, and try running outside in the winter anyway. I would like to join a gym with spinning classes though..

I'm not a member of Snap Fitness, but I did use one of their facilities while on a trip once. Of course, this was at 5AM...and I had to beg the one and only person in the place to let me in. :D But it served my purpose and got the job done for me. Since I obviously was there during a non-peak time, I wouldn't know how crowded it normally gets. We don't have any in my area, that I know of. If it suits your needs, and the price is right...I don't see why you shouldn't give it a try. As long as you don't have to get locked into a contract, what's the harm in trying it out for a month?

Thanks, both of your comments are helpful! I'll probably try the freebie week pass first and if that's a positive experience, then sign on for one of the short-term memberships for fall/winter. I work for myself so have a little flexibility time-wise---I might be able to go in during 'off hours' if crowding is an issue.......Thanks!
