SHimano 105 SPD-SL road bike pedals

anyone have some of these? I've just ordered a pair. They're Cycle University's product of the month. i will write my own review after I get mine.

The name of the game in cycling is: Power Transfer. When you, the athletic cyclist, are on your bike, you want to take all the power generated in your quads, glutes, and hammies, and transfer this power as efficiently and directly as possible into the pedals.

If your pedal-cleat interface does not provide a stable platform for all your power to transfer into, then your delicate small muscle tissue and tendons around your knees and ankles must overwork to compensate for the lack of stability in the pedals. This is an equation for injury. These small stabilization muscles and tendons are not built to support/transfer all the power your beastly quads can produce.

The Shimano 105 pedals alleviate this issue. If you compare the platform size of a mountain bike cleat to the surface area of the new Shimano road pedals, the difference is blatantly obvious.

The reason why the Shimano pedals have a leg up on the competition, and the reason why I am raving about them so much, is because Shimano added a wider platform (the pontoon looking part sticking out on the side of the pedal) that gives you and me, the riders, more stability then any other pedal out there. Shimano also re-engineered the material design of their pedals and came up with a much sturdier and long lasting metal platform.

Two Years ago, when I was racing full time on the National Pro Track and Road Circuit, these pedals saved me from a near career ending Achilles injury caused by a brand of pedals which did not offer near as much stability.

I cannot recommend these pedals enough. The 105 model are inexpensive, dramatically increase power transfer, and prevent future injuries. If you want a fancy and lighter pedal, you can always step it up to the Dura-Ace top-o-the-line model.
