Just completed my third Tour de Donut. Let me set the stage. 30 miles, 1,200 riders, 3,600 glazed donuts. It's a timed race with two rest stops, 10 miles apart. For every donut you eat, five minutes are deducted from your ending time. What a fun day! There are riders of every age and size and bikes of every style. The event is held in Staunton, IL, and residents line the streets, yelling, cheering and ringing cow bells to cheer you on. I haven't seen the results from this year, but I think that top eater last year ate 24 donuts! Afterward, there's a street fest, complete with a rib cookoff. What a fabulous time! If you're ever in this part of the country, check it out!
