My new Selle Italia SLR Lady Gelflow just arrived today. I'm doing a metric century on Sun. Should I install the new saddle before the ride or wait until I've had a chance to do some shorter rides? I've been having a lot of trouble with girly bits bruising recently, and my last couple of rides have not been much fun. Any thoughts?
Well, the more cautious thing to do would be to wait. However, I did the exact opposite, and slapped my new SLR on 2 days before the Wild Goose Chase metric :D It ended up working out for me, and I don't think I'd have survived on my old saddle.
Can you do at least one short ride on the new saddle before your metric?
I really hope that it works out for you! I luuuuuv my SLR!

team car;)

I was already on a regular SLR Gelflow and I transitioned to the SLR Lady Gelflow (with the ginormous cut-out... but I was really after the wider T shape) in the spring.
I sat on it and knew it was right, and just went for it.
As becky says, can you try it for a short ride first? If it feels better than the old saddle, which is hurting you, I'd say give it a try.
It also depends on the kind of time you think you'll spend in the saddle. If a metric century takes you 6 hours it's not the same as if it takes you 3 hours.

Have about five rides in on mine and really like it. A few minor tweeks, nose up and down, forward and back and finally a saddle raise ( slippage in the seat post). I really love it. It's really just like the men's, but bigger. The flexible center is great. I'd give it a shot with the century. If nothing else, the gel padding will be a plus.
When I was training for my first metric century and trying to figure out which saddle would work best I *did* carry a second one in a handle bar bag. I don't think I changed it out on the ride but I was prepared to.
