Are padded liners any good? I saw a pair in the LBS in a box. When I took them out of the box, they really were not that impressive. So I was wondering if all padded liners are like that?

Do you mean liners that can be worn under regular clothes?
I have a couple of different ones. The best ones I've found are Sugoi (bought here on TE). The chamois is very similar to Shebeest/Terry chamois. I have worn them under various capris/baggies.
I also have an assortment of Terry liner shorts that come with their mountain bike, commuter gear. They are also nice.
Don't buy the Adiamo liners... they felt like I was wearing a huge diaper.
Yeah, I'm talking about the ones that you can wear with different types of shorts. The adiamo are the ones that I saw in the LBS that just didn't look right!! I also saw a place that was just selling the pad itself, no liner or nothing, but I'm wondering if that would even stay in place?
I don't think just the chamois would stay in place; and if it moved, it could be big time chafing. Look at the Sugoi ones here on TE...
Or, buy a pair of Shebeest board shorts that come with a liner. The pad is good, not too thick and you can wear the liner under other stuff. I wear the shorts all the time sans liner, for hiking, etc. I also wear them the few times I go mtb. and for doing errands.
