Easter Rides

I did the rail trail on the way to church, I usually see a Rabbit or two, but I guess they were all busy delivering eggs.:)
Going home, I decided to stop the Epicenter (Baseball stadium) Nick Adenhart (the pitcher for the Angels who died in a DUI accident Thursday Morning) Played for the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes in 2006:

DH and I did 25 miles today on part of the CRW Saturday morning route. It was 42 degrees with a 20-30 mph wind, so we only averaged 12 mph. Glad to be back in the house- having some hot chocolate as a recovery, then going to dye some easter eggs later!

I was out for my first ride of the season. We took it easy and circled the lakes near my house and also followed the creek for a bit. All my slacking over the winter has left me sorely out of shape and I'll be feeling all 10 miles tomorrow!

No pics today. I'll have to remember my camera next time, although with the trees still bare it's not very scenic right now. Hopefully we'll have leaves and buds soon!

20 miles - half into a 20 mile wind, the other half was wonderful! 17.5mph overall average.

I had planned a 22 mile loop (followed by a 5k run) but the route started directly into a fierce headwind and was kicking me hard. I ended up turning it into an 18 mile out and back. 13-14mph out, 17-20mph back. The run was hard, too.

I was supposed to get out and do 30 as per my training plan, but it's been raining all day long. I could do it on the trainer, but I just can't stand sitting on the bike for 2.5 hours inside. Ick! I'll try to squeeze it in tomorrow after work. :)

I went to air my tires this morning and found I had a slow leak. So I called the ride leader to wait for me. They leave on the DOT of 8 a.m., and even though I made it to the start by 8:01, I would've had to chase them for two or three miles if I hadn't called.

I had to kind of hammer to get there with no warm-up. So they put extra hurtin' on me. It wasn't quite the thrashing we got last Sunday, but the faster riders are obviously here to stay. (Another rider remarked it was probably God's punishment on us for not going to church this morning. :rolleyes: I responded that I still have to ride another 10 miles RT on the hybrid to get to the afternoon service!)

I made it all the way without getting dropped, then literally 100 yards from my house I got ANOTHER flat. I'll just count my blessings that it didn't happen as soon as I turned for home, three miles out, since I'd already used my spare tube. 53 miles.

I can't even remember the last time I had two flats in one day. Even though technically the slow leak would've started on Friday, I can't remember the last time I had two flats on consecutive days either.

DH and I did the shop ride.
Someone showed up with a not-ready-to-ride bike (ALWAYS bad form...), and we got a late start because the LBS owner, Mike, was fixing this guy's bike. :mad: A big slug of folks left early, thinking the signal was given to "go". But Mike was still inside. So, the ride fractured into several groups before we even left the parking lot! :(
A. again coached Erica and me up Mass Ave, and he led me out down the street at the top...told me to get on his wheel, otherwise I was just wasting his time! He later told me we were cruising at 25-30 mph the whole way! :eek: I even decided today to go up Mountaingate. Aicabsolut knows that hill. ;) Short, but very steep -- my Garmin shows a max grade of 15%. I did okay, going up with the group, but really maxed out my HR at the top and the re-group was really brief, so I got shed off the back pretty quickly when they started up again, trying to recover. It was all I could do to hang onto last wheel, as I didn't know the route to get back to the main road. :eek: Always an incentive to ride FAST when you don't know the way. :rolleyes:
Unfortunately, Moutaingate sapped my legs and I posted my worst time going up Old Angler's Hill. Well...that's where improvements come over the season, right??

I just rode to church and took a longer loop home to see how my overhauled hub rode - sweetly :) THe really nice guy at the bike coop showed me how to do it... tho' he did most of it (but it's so simple it would be hard to show and not do... *and* ... welp, if your'e at all mechanically competent it can be hard to watch me, and I was especially distractible). I haven't been on this one-speed in a while, though, so when I turned into the 20 mph headwind I was feeling aroudn for shifters that aren't there :)

IF I can get my taxes done *and* this little writing project, then mebbe I can sneak out for another short blast... I want to get to 2000 miles for the year this week and it's going to take riding...

So, rode yesterday with the club-- 27 mile loop around two lakes. Very pretty. Some rain and cold, but not too terrible!

Maybe I'll get a run in today instead!?

I did a 35 mile ride on my new Surly and realized that I desperately need a new saddle. :eek: The girlie bits as well as the sit bones were sore by the end. Not fun. But, the ride was great otherwise. I love the way the bike handles and it's a lot lighter than I thought it would be. I did go with the compact double instead of having a triple put on, and I'm still debating on whether or not that was a mistake. I tend to ride higher and lower gears and not a lot in between, but I did have some troubles getting the exact gearing because of the gaps. I think I'll get used to that. It was a gorgeous morning but now is getting a bit windy. Glad I managed to miss that part! :D

I feel your pain... pouring rain, well at least pouring drizzle, here too - 2:15 on the trainer with "hill" repeats. I'm sick of this weather.

I made it 12 miles (nothing compared to you all) around town lake......omg people.... people... strollers....dogs....ect.....

It took me an hour....but helped with the bike handling skills....and waiting at a near stop then sprinting around a group.

Did 20 miles with DH on the Silver Comet Trail - a relatively flat trail that runs along a railroad in the Atlanta area. To make it a challenge we did intervals - all out in a big gear, recover, all out, recover. The wind was brutal, but it was a bright cloudless day in Georgia and the ride was great!

DH was on call this weekend and I have just come down with a cold but I had not ridden in 10 days due to rain and granddaughter visiting. So, I went anyway today with our group, without hubby, and, as most other posters here have said...we had wind, wind, wind! It was a 30 mile loop with the first 15 into the wind at 12.9 mph average. The total average was 14.2, with 1820 feet of climbing. I am feeling a bit unready for the metric I am doing on April 25th!
