Not Meant to Be

I hope you all don't mind but I need to mope a bit. I started helping out at my local bike co-op and along came a 2003 GF Sugar 3+ GS. I paid it no mind and then I saw it listed on craigslist. I asked about it but wasn't sure that I was in the market or really wanted an MTB.

Then I tried her out and loved her. She was a perfect fit. I asked if I could maybe make payments on her and that was totally okay. I just wanted to pay off mom for Hank's massive vet bill he racked up before I could feel okay buying it.

Well my paycheck from the pet store was much bigger than expected from working like crazy and I owed my mom less than I thought so I sent her the money and hit the ATM on the way home from work on Friday.

Today I was feeling so good about the bike that I packed a few spare bike parts, a jersey that I had a love hate with into my pretty but accident prone Basil Blossoms I was going to sell. I stopped by Target and got a big pack of rags, toothbrushes for cleaning, and some GoJo hand cleaner to add to my donation and cookies for the crew. When I got there it was crazy busy. I wandered to the storage room and looked for miss sugar. She wasn't there! I tried not to panic as they move bikes around a lot. Sure enough, SHE sold yesterday to a GUY!

Oh the agony! I had planned to stay and work but the chaos combined with heart break was more than I could handle. I went home and sulked for a while and then went to the barn. My handsome yellow pony made everything better. He is faster than I will ever be on my bike. Yay for having a sexy, young, handsome, blonde, tall sprinter I can ride whenever I want.

I guess it wasn't meant to be. Sure they made $50 more than they were going to sell it to me for so that's cool, I guess. It just sucks because I'm going to be the only one at work without a mountain bike and I feel left out. Staci is buying a Specialized Myka here soon and everyone is so jazzed for her. She lives at home so funding a bike is a hell of a lot easier for her. Okay yeah I have a rocking barrel horse and they don't, and if there were more races here it would be awesome.

I hate this feeling. They bag on Candy all the time and tell me how I should get a better bike. There isn't a better bike than Candy, she's the best bike in the world to me because she's got my heart and soul in her. I knew jack before her and now I know I could build a bike. She's fine for me because all I want to do is ride and have fun, and she does that for me. The Sugar was the same way, it was old and not as snazzy as a newer bike but it would have been fun.

A wise dog once said, "You don't need a yacht to have fun. Rowboat will do. And just because other guy has yacht, doesn't make rowboat less fun."

So I guess it's chin up time. I know in my heart I love my bike and have more fun on her than any of them do. I don't need fancy crap to validate myself to them. I just had it in my head that maybe I could ride with Staci and show her the ropes. Give her patience and support and teach her the value of "soft eyes" on the trail.

In my heart I know I want a BMX or dirt jump bike but I try and keep that quiet because it's apparently not cool in their book.

It just sucks because I grew up by pretty modest means and that is still in my core. I buy my groceries at Wal-Mart and I'm sure despite using reusable grocery bags that means I'm going to hell. Hey, tonight it meant treating my roommate and I to steak versus chicken. I'm okay with irregular clothes and used bikes. Since my big move finances have been strained and I'm still catching up with the whole mess. Now my perfect bike went to someone else and I'm the girl wearing the Payless special while the rest of the playground has Reebok Pumps.

*sigh* I tried SO HARD to be all stoic about this, but it bums me out. I knew I should have called the shop, left work early, something. I know it wasn't meant to be but it still SUCKS!

Aw ((((smurf)))) that stinks.

When the time is right your perfect bike will come to you. Sorry this one had to tease you. :(

What a bummer, so know that feeling with other things that have happened to me in life. When I was around your age, I saw this fab suit in a shop window, it really was super cool, paid a high deposit and when I went in to eventually pay for it, the shop had been burgled.......aaaaargh!

When the time is right, something will come up that's even better for you and when it does, we will want to see lots of pics.

Anyway, I must say, I just read your Blog and it's brilliant, you really made me laugh and you write so well.

Just learnt what 'peloton' means, see, I know nuffink.

Your thread was so interesting and I am sure your next bike is just around the corner.
