Isn't it the same as saddle soap?
I already have saddle soap :)
Proofide is wax based (with some oil) so it seals the leather.
Saddle soap is oil based and has some cleaner (surfactant).
I read it on the internet, so it must be true!

dang :(
Wallbike - one of the few trustworthy internet sources:D
How 'bout snoseal? I seem to recall another credible source said that was OK...
ewwww, I wouldn't put Snoseal on anything but shoes, and definitely not on a saddle. It's so gummy and yucky.
ETA: Snoseal specifically does say that it's made to "lubricate without softening," so it sounds like it would be safe, if you don't mind the texture.
Proofhide ingredients:
Ingredients: Tallow, Cod oil, Vegetable Oil, Parrafin wax, Beeswax, Citronella oil.
Sno-Seal ingredients:
Beeswax and ???
Hmmm...sheldon said sno-seal and saddle soap were both OK.

Proofide smells nice.
:)
I'm sot of leaning towards Sheldon's Neatsfoot oil method.
Who am I to doubt Sheldon?
I think I might have an extra tin of Proofhide if you want it, Zen.
Well I guess I'd be a fool to turn that down!
Thanks, DB.
Will it hurt to ride it before treating it?
The saddle, I mean. It may hurt my heinie though.
